BARRIERS OF A FIRST LOVE
Chapter Nineteen
The paramedics came a while later. Rose was
unconscious when they arrived and didn’t wake up until she was being loaded
into the ambulance. Immediately, she demanded of the authorities, "Where’s
Jack? Is he okay?"
"Ma’am, we need you to lie down and
relax."
"No! I can’t relax until I know if Jack
is okay."
The woman looked over to her partner. He
sighed, shrugged, and told her to tell Rose. The paramedic faced Rose and said,
"I’m sorry, hon."

Rose lay perfectly still in the ambulance.
She was already hooked up to a million
machines and the male paramedic kept asking her questions. The woman looked at
him and shook her head no. "It’s okay, sweetie. You’re okay. We’re gonna
call your parents. You’re in good hands."
The ambulance, siren whirling, raced through
the streets.
Too silent even for herself to hear it, Rose
whispered, "I’ll never let go."
