THE JACK DAWSON DIARIES
Chapter Five
He turned the lock and ran out of
the bathroom, racing into his room and grabbing Scarlett like greased lightning.
He slung open a duffel bag, shoving clothes and baby stuff inside it.
"Is that you, twat?"
Jack gulped. He quickly put
Scarlett into her coat and stroller. He strapped her in tightly and opened the
door to find his Dad passed out on the couch, a bottle of gin beside him.
Jack gave a sigh of relief.
He grabbed a pen and a grubby
piece of paper and began to scrawl, saying:
Hey, Madison, Kyle, and Max,
Things got really bad today, okay?
I was having the crap beaten out of me by Dad just ‘cause I went out last
night. I locked myself in the bathroom for four hours. Then Scarlett started
crying and Dad started shouting. I was so scared. Really, I was. I don’t get
scared much. I thought he would start hitting her and then might kill her. I
can’t stay here anymore, though. If I don’t escape now, who knows what will
happen? And you need to get out too. He’ll start on you guys next. I don’t know
when or if I will ever see you again. I promise I’ll try. I don’t know where
I’m going, or what I’m going to do. I might go to LA, for all I know, and meet
Steven Spielberg. I just hope it will all turn out okay. If I find Mom, I’ll
tell you. I’ll come back and tell you. All three of us will.
Love you always,
Jack and Scarlett
