FALLING INTO YOU
Chapter Nine
Rose looked around the room, trying to find a
way out.
The room was damp, dark, and cold. It seemed
as if it used to be a room, but it was abandoned. There was a bed, which she
was laying upon when she woke up, where the guard must have placed her after
knocking her unconscious, since she was trying to escape. Rose got up, and
rubbed the back of her head, but there was no blood. Rose looked next to the
bed, and there was a nightstand. On top of the nightstand there was a jewelry
box. Rose opened the box, to listen to a wonderful tune, and an old looking
key. Rose looked around to see if anyone was watching her, and she placed the
key into her pocket. Rose got up from the bed, and looked over at the window,
which had a lace curtain. The curtain was blowing, from cold wind that was
coming in. Rose went over to the window, to see what was to be seen. There was
nothing much to see but a steep view and a beautiful sunset. Rose then turned
around, and saw two doors. One was locked, and the key would not fit inside the
keyhole. The other was a closet, which seemed to have only hangers. Yet, there
was a tapestry hanging right beside the closet door.
Rose lifted the tapestry, to find a door.
Rose tried to open the door, but it was locked. Rose took the key out of her
pocket, and placed it in the keyhole. She heard the click of the door
unlocking, and she opened the door. There were stairs that circled downward,
and there was only one lighted candle down there for light.
Rose looked behind her again, to see if
anyone was there, but there wasn't.
'Wait a minute, if I don't stay in this room,
and Jack is coming to save me, then he might get killed fiddling through every
room. Yet, if I stay, I might get killed. And Jack is smart. He laughs at the
face of death.'
Rose turned around one more time, pulled the
tapestry down, closed the door, and locked it. Rose descended down the steps,
and heard music being played. Men's voices bellowed from the bottom of the
stairs also, but yet, there were two different ways to go. One was the men's
voices, the other the whistle of the wind. Rose could certainly hear the way to
go to get yourself killed, and she went the other way. This way was dark with
no light, and Rose kept on bumping into the walls. On one of the walls, Rose
felt a doorknob.
As she turned it, she heard a voice say,
"All right, let's go check out our bait."
Rose ran up the stairs, and quickly got out
her key, for she forgot that she locked it. She unlocked it, opened the door,
locked the door, placed the tapestry down, put the key back, and got into bed,
pretending she was asleep. The door then opened, and two guards came over to
the bed.
"Wake up," one of the guards said,
taking his gun and poking it on Rose's arm.
Rose then pretended to wake and got up. The
other guard gave Rose a dress that was white.
"Put this on," the guard said, and
they left.
Rose put the dress on, and put her other
clothes on the bed. The guards came back in and literally pulled out Rose's
scrunchie that was holding her ponytail up.
"Ow!" Rose screamed, at the top of
her lungs.
The other guard came over, and put rope
around her wrists.
"Start walking," the guard said, as
they stood behind Rose.
Rose walked down the steps, and she heard
behind her, "I'll right stop there." Rose saw Hockley sitting at the
table.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well, my
dear?" Hockley asked.
Rose gave him a cold, hard stare.
Hockley just smiled, and said, "Guards,
is this any way to treat our guests? Take the rope off."
The guard took the rope off, and stood back.
"Well, come now, sit down. Have
breakfast with me," Hockley said.
Rose stood still, and then the guards came
over, and pushed her over to the seat, and sat her down in the chair.
"Sausage?" Hockley asked, opening a
dish.
"I'm not hungry," Rose said.
"Of course you are. How about some
porridge?" Hockley said, sliding the bowl down to Rose's side.
Rose thought for a minute about taking it,
but what if he put some drugs in it? Just to be on the safe side, Rose replied
with, "I'm not hungry."
Hockley's eyes opened up wider, and he said,
"You're not? Well then, you can watch me eat breakfast as you starve to
death."
Rose rolled her eyes, and Hockley shoved a
spoonful of porridge in his mouth, and said, "Let's get down to business,
shall we? Now, last night, in my bed, I thought of a good compromise, for you
to exit this mansion without getting a scrape, and you can go and cuddle with
your man Dawson."
Rose looked up when he mentioned the word
Dawson. "How do you know about Jack?" Rose asked.
Cal smiled, and said, "See, boys, it's
already working. Yes, well, Dawson and I go way back. In, of course, tracking
me down. So, what do you say? You want to hear the compromise?"
Rose looked annoyed, and said, "All
right."
"It's pretty simple, Rose. You tell me
where that diamond is, and I'll set you free, but you can't tell where I am.
I'm a wanted man," Cal said, chuckling.
Rose gave a quick, cheesy smile, and Cal
continued.
"So, do we have a compromise, Rose? You
have to admit it, it is a good one."
Rose nodded her head, and said, "Yes,
but I don't know where the diamond is, or what you are talking about."
Cal opened the right side of his coat, and
Rose scooted back.
"Oh, I think you perfectly know what I
am talking about," Cal said, as he raised his gun towards Rose.
Rose sat in shock, and said, under her
breath, "Oh Jack, where ever you are, get here quick."
