JACK AND ROSE: PRESENT TIME
Chapter One
"Miss DeWitt
Bukater."
"Um,"
Rose starred down at her math book, "I don't know," Rose finally
confessed she didn't know the answer.
"It's
thirty-three," a boy whispered behind her. It was that annoying blonde haired
boy who had been bugging her since the beginning of the year. Rose had a tiny
crush on him, but she didn't want to admit it.
"What was that
Mr. Dawson?" the teacher asked.
"I didn't say
anything," Jack replied.
The teacher gave
him a weird look, and then went back to teaching math.
"Rose!"
Jack yelled in a whisper.
"Mr. Dawson
and Miss DeWitt Bukater that is quite enough! You both have detention,"
Mrs. Smith said.
As the teacher
turned her back, Rose whispered to Jack, "Thanks a lot."
At the end of the
day Jack walked into the detention room and sat next to Rose, who was reading a
book.
"Hello
again," Jack said.
Rose was not
speaking to him. Her mother was going to kill her. She had never gotten a
detention in her life.
"Look Rose,
I'm sorry alright? I really am. I didn't mean to get you in trouble."
Rose paused,
"Well, that's alright. You didn't do it on purpose."
"What are ya
reading?" Jack asked.
"Oh, it's a
book about the Titanic."
"A book about
what?"
"The Titanic.
You know, that ship that sank a long time ago."
Jack just shrugged
his shoulders. "Whatever." Jack paused, and then went on. "I was
thinking Rose, what are you doing tonight?"
"Um I'm going
shopping after school with Tonya, then nothing."
"Well, would
you like to do something with me tonight?"
"Are you
asking me out on a date?"
"Yep."
"I accept.
Where do you wanna go?" Rose asked.
"Where ever
you want."
"Well, do you
wanna go swimming at my house?"
"Sure. What
time?"
"Um, come over
at seven."
Jack nodded.
"I'll be there."
Rose and her best
friend Tonya went to the mall after school. Tonya was rich and popular, just
like Rose was. They both loved California's warm climate. They went to the
beach all of the time with their friends.
"I can't believe
you have a date tonight with Jack Dawson! Rose, he's like the hottest guy in
school!" Tonya told her.
"He is cute,
isn't he?"
"Cute? Cute?
The man is HOT!"
"Shh, Tonya
shut up. Not so loud," Rose said playfully to her friend.
"Oh my gosh
Rose, look who's here." Tonya said as she pointed to a guy.
"So."
"Rose! He's
the richest man in the school. He's also very popular. I do anything to be his
girlfriend!"
"Tonya, why
don't you just go ask him out?"
"Me! Me ask
Caledon Hockley out! You're crazy!"
Rose just rolled
her eyes. She looked over at Cal and he smiled at her and waved her over to
him.
Rose and Tonya
walked over to him and his friends.
"Hey Rose, hey
Tonya." Cal said.
"Hi. What's
up?" Tonya asked.
"Nothin'
really. Hey Rose, is it true you have a date tonight with Jack Dawson?"
"Yeah..."
"Oh. Look, I
have to respect him because he's popular and all, but he's not rich."
"So."
"So? Never
mind Rose you're hopeless. Are you girls going to the party tomorrow
night?" Cal asked.
Tonya and Rose
shook their heads. "Good. I'll be there too. Rose, save me a dance,
alright?" Cal asked.
"Sure."
Rose smiled politely at him before he left.
"You are so
lucky Rose!" Tonya said when he was out of site.
"Oh, Tonya. He
might have a lot more money than Jack, but does it really matter?"
"I guess not.
Besides, I want you to be with Jack. I want Cal for myself."
Rose rolled her
eyes and they finished shopping.
