JACK AND ROSE: PRESENT TIME
Chapter
Twenty-Nine
Rose stared at
herself in the mirror as she brushed her hair. She was going swimming today at
the country club with Dominique. Rose and Dominique use to go to the country
club a lot with Tonya, but they hadn't gone since.
Rose ran out of her
room and down the stairs when she heard Dominique honk her horn.
"Hi Dominique,"
Rose said as she got in her car.
"Hey
Rose," Dominique said. "I love those sunglasses!"
"Thanks,"
Rose replied.
It was another hot,
sunny day in Santa Monica. There wasn't a single cloud in the sky. Most days
were like this.
Once Rose and
Dominique got there, they headed straight for the pool. They both got their
rafts and went out into the middle of the pool and lied there, absorbing the
sun.
"So, Rose,
what happened with you and Jack?" Dominique said as she adjusted her sun
glasses.
"Nothing, he
knows the kiss didn't mean anything," Rose said. "I just got caught
up in the game."
Dominique smiled.
"Ah, come on Rose! I know that Fabrizio is a good kisser. You enjoyed it,
didn't you?"
"No, yes, I
dunno," Rose said. "Fabrizio is one of my best friends, but it didn't
mean anything. I love Jack. When I kissed Fabrizio it was like kissing my
brother, ya know?"
"You don't
have a brother," Dominique said.
"I know, but
if I did..." Rose said, starring at the blue sky.
"Anyways, I'm
totally bummin', we have school tomorrow," Dominique complained.
"Ah, come on.
It won't be that bad," Rose said. "Summer vacation is only in three
months," Rose reminded Dominique.
"I
guess..." Dominique said. "This sun feels so good!"
"I know...I
love it here," Rose replied.
"Rose, what
college do you want to go to?" Dominique asked.
"Um, I haven’t
thought about it much. I really want to raise my GPA so I can got to UCLA, but
I know that's just a dream."
Dominique smiled.
"Rose, you can do it. I know you can. Just promise me that no matter what
happens, we'll always be friends."
"I
promise."
