JACK AND ROSE: PRESENT TIME
Chapter
Fifty-Three
Rose sat, waiting
patiently in the doctor’s office. She prayed that she wasn't pregnant. That
would ruin everything! She would have to quit school and get a job. She wasn't
ready for this.
The doctor coming
in interrupted her thoughts. "Rose?"
Rose's head shot
up. "Yes?"
"You're not
pregnant," he said with a smile.
Rose took a sigh of
relief and smiled to herself. "Thank goodness."
"Would you
like me to go tell your boyfriend to come in?" He asked nicely.
"Yes, please."
Soon after, Jack
raced into the room and just searched Rose's eyes for an answer. He knew it
when he saw her smile. "I'm not..." she muttered.
Jack just hugged
Rose. He was relieved. He didn't have to worry about being a father this soon
after all. "Thank God."
"I'm just so
glad that we didn't tell anyone," Rose said. Jack nodded in agreement and
just held Rose in his arms.
The ride home was a
happy one. They talked about all of the things that they could continue to do.
But, someone had to bring it up...
"What would
you have named it?" Jack asked.
"Adam for a
boy, Tonya for a girl," she replied with a smile.
Jack returned the
smile. Rose paused, and then asked, "Jack..later in life do you wanna have
kids?"
Jack looked at her.
"Of course I do. Rose, you might not believe me, but I think about it all
the time. Like, where we're gonna live, how many kids we'll have, stuff like
that."
"I do too,
Jack. It makes me so happy to hear it from you, though," she replied.
Rose opened up her
compact and just starred at herself in the mirror. She could have actually been
a mother. A mother. She sighed and put it back in her purse.
Suddenly, Rose's
cell phone rang. Rose reached into her purse and picked it up.
It was Dominique.
"Oh Dom, thank God," Rose said. "I'm not pregnant."
"You told her
about it!?"Jack asked in surprise.
"Uh, I gotta
go, Dominique. I'll call you." Rose hung up and placed the phone back in
her purse.
"Rose,"
Jack said. "I thought that we promised not to tell anyone."
"Dominique is
my best friend..."
"Why did you
have to tell her?"
"What's the
big deal, Jack?"
Jack took a breath.
"Look, I'm sorry. I just didn't want anyone to know, that's all."
Rose nodded.
"I'm sorry for telling it to her."
The rest of the car
ride home was very quite. Once they reached their house, they felt better. They
were both full of relief.
Once they got home
they almost went immediantly to bed, this time not with each other. When Rose
got to bed she just thought. Thought about all of the events that had happened
in the past few months.
Jack's mind drifted
off, too. He thought about tons of stuff. But, one thing just stayed in his
mind. Should he tell her? Should he tell Rose about his son...
