JACK AND ROSE: PRESENT TIME
Chapter
Fifty-Five
"I'm so glad
we are doing this," Rose said to Dominique as they reached the dock. As
they climbed out of Dominique's car, Rose noticed Jack already on the boat with
Fabrizio and Alexia.
They parked the car
just in time for Tommy to pull up next to them. "Hey you two," he
said in a cheery voice.
"Hey
Tommy," they replied.
Rose looked back up
at Jack. He was just laughing with his friends. Rose was glad. It had been two
weeks since he told her about his son. Rose hoped this would be a nice,
peaceful trip.
"We're gonna
have the best of time," Dominique said. Rose prayed she was right. They
were going on Fabrizio's boat for a whole week. They had been looking forward
for a long time.
As they got on the
boat with the rest of them, they said goodbye to the land and took off.
"Where did you
learn how to do this?" Dominique asked Fabrizio. The two of them were both
sitting alone as Fabrizio steered the ship.
"From my
father," Fabrizio replied. "I used to go out on this ship when I was
a little boy. I loved it."
Just then, Jack
interupted. "Fabri, do you got any of them...what do you call em...those
things you wear..."
"Lifejackets?"
"Yeah!"
Jack said.
"There in that
upperhand closet right threre," Fabrizio said. "Why?"
"Tommy wants
one. He's like getting sea sick out there..." Jack said, opening the
closet door.
As Jack went back
out onto the deck, he saw Tommy looking like he was going to throw up.
"Here Tom," Jack said as he threw the lifejacket his way.
"Rose,"
Jack said. "You're gonna get a sun burn."
Rose and Alexia
were both lying down tanning. "You sound like my mother, Jack," Rose
said with a laugh.
"Tommy, are
you sure you're okay?" Alexia asked.
"I'm
fine," he said.
"Anyways,"
Rose said. "Does anyone feel like..." Rose didn't finish her
sentence. The boat came to a stop.
"Why are we
stopping?" Tommy yelled to Fabrizio. Fabrizio came out along with
Dominique.
"I think the
motor broke," Fabrizio said. "I forgot to have it checked before we
left..."
"So what are
we gonna do?" Alexia asked. "We're in the middle of nowhere!"
"We just
wait," Fabrizo said.
"Just
wait," Jack said sarcasticly.
"Look, I
didn't plan this!" Fabrizio yelled.
"You
guys," Dominique said. "Look..."
Dominique leaned
over and picked up a small note off the deck. She read it aloud.
"I know you
are...but soon I'll know who you were."
"What the hell
is that supposed to mean?" Tommy asked as he lit a cigerette. Tommy
usually didn't smoke, but he did when he was under stress.
"Fabrizio,"
Jack asked. "Did you make sure no one had climbed onto your boat before we
took off."
Fabrizio looked at
him. "No..."
"So now we
have someone who will kill us on this boat," Alexia said.
"Great."
"You
guys," Tommy said. "It's probably someone who's just playing a trick
on us."
"And it's just
a coincidence that the motor broke?" Rose asked. "You guys, I'm
totally freaking out."
Just then, they
heard a crash. "That's it you guys," Tommy said. "You know what
we have to do."
"What?"
They asked.
"Find the son
of a bitch that is on here with us..."
