SUMMER LOVERS
Chapter One
Rose DeWitt Bukater
settled herself comfortably in the couch at the beach house that her aunt
rented for the two of them for the summer. She was seventeen years old. She had
curly long red hair and a pair of beautiful blue green eyes. She lived with her
parents in Philadelphia. Her father was one of the richest businessmen in
Philadelphia. Rose was spending her summer vacation with her aunt. This was the
first summer she had without her parents.
"I’m glad it’s
summer," Rose said to herself while gazing at the window.
Suddenly her aunt
came to her and asked, "Sweetie, do you want to come with me and Janice to
take a walk outside? It’s beautiful out there."
"Yes, I know
it’s lovely out there, but I think I’ll stay here, Aunt Becky," said Rose,
while getting up to go to the kitchen.
Aunt Becky’s real
name was Rebecca, but she liked Becky better because she said it sounds very
old fashioned. She was a lot different than her mother, Ruth. She understands
Rose more. Rose can talk to her about everything because she gives Rose advice
instead of criticism like her mother. Her mother always tells her to act proper
and when Rose didn’t obey her, they always ended up in a big argument. Rose and
her mother were not very close unlike her relationship with her aunt; they were
very close even though they just see each other on holidays like Christmas,
Thanks Giving, and family parties.
"Well, are you
sure? You’ve been here all day, and hardly go out. It’s summer! Go out and make
friends with other people instead of spending your day reading books or writing
poems," her aunt said.
"I’m pretty
sure I want to stay in here and if I changed my mind, I’ll go and catch up with
you two."
"Okay. If you
changed your mind, you can find us near the Tropical Bar. Well, see you
later. Come on Janice. Let’s start walking, girl," said Becky while
leading her dog outside.
Finally, Rose was
alone and she went back in the living room from the kitchen after getting some
snacks. She sat down in the couch and after a few minutes, she stood up again
and turned on the CD player. It was playing I’ll Never Break Your Heart
by the Backstreet Boys, her favorite band. All them were cute, but
Rose’s favorite was Nick Carter. He’s such a hottie said Rose to herself. Then,
she sat back in the couch and started reading.
