SUMMER IN SANTA MONICA
Chapter Two
"Mom, Dad! I made cheerleading!"
Rose exclaimed, running through the door.
"Oh, that's great, Rose!" Tom said,
congratulating her.
"That's excellent, honey," Ruth
said.
"Speaking of school activities, when
will Jack be starting school?" Ruth asked.
"He starts tomorrow. Rose, could you
show him the ropes?" Tom asked.
"Sure, it might be kind of cool,"
Rose said.
Jack walked down the stairs. He had obviously
been sleeping all day.
"Jack, you start school tomorrow,"
Tom said.
"I'll be showing you the ropes,"
Rose said.
"That's just what I need," Jack
mumbled.
"Jack, it doesn't take that long to get
the hang of school," Tom said.
"Yeah, a day or two. Will he be riding
my bus?" Rose asked.
"Well, we decided to let you two drive
home," Ruth said.
"Really? Can I drive your BMW? Please,
Dad?" Rose asked.
"Sure, what the heck," Tom said.
"Oh, wow. Then, can I drive home,
too?" Jack asked, mocking Rose.
"Quit being a smart ass, Jack," Tom
said.
"Whatever. Can I call Mom?" Jack
asked.
"Sure. Use the phone in my room,"
Tom said.
Jack ran upstairs and talked to his Mom. Rose
showed her Mom and Tom the pictures of the cheerleading uniforms.
