SUMMER IN SANTA MONICA
Chapter Four

Rose sat in homeroom, doodling in her notebook.

"Mr. Warner, do you have anybody that can show a new student around?" Ms. Lyle said over the intercom.

"Rose, Greg, would you two like to show him around?" Mr. Warner asked.

"Sure, Mr. Warner," Rose and Greg said in unison.

"All right. Come here, please," he said.

"Yes, Mr. Warner?" Rose asked.

"All right, his name is Jack Dawson..." Mr. Warner said.

"No, please, not him," Rose said.

"What's wrong, Rose?" Greg asked.

"That's my stepbrother," Rose said.

"Well, you're going to have to live with it," Mr. Warner said.

"Okay, we can show him around," Greg said.

"Let's go get him," Rose said, walking out the door.

When they got to the office, Rose saw Jack sitting in a chair in the office. "Hey."

"Hey," Jack said. Then he and Greg started talking.

"Ms. Lyle, we're here to show him around," Rose said.

"All right," Ms. Lyle said, handing his schedule to Rose.

"All right, I got your schedule. You have Choir first period," Rose said.

"Hey, I do too," Greg said.

Rose gave Greg a dirty stare. "Let's just take him to homeroom."

"All right, let's go," Greg said, taking Rose's hand.

"I hate him," Rose said.

"Chill. Once we get him settled in school, we can leave him be," Greg said.

So they went and showed him where he went for all of his classes. He had five of them with Rose, in three of them, she sat next to him.
