SUMMER IN SANTA MONICA
Chapter Eight
Rose and Jack left the party together, silent
the whole time.
"Rose, do you want to go to the
beach?" Jack asked her when they got to the car.
"Sure," Rose said.
Jack drove them to the beach. When they got
there, he started making small talk.
"Rose, what are we going to do when I
have to go home?" he asked her.
"I don't know. I like you, and if I lose
you I don't know what I'll do," Rose said.
"Likewise," Jack said.
"Jack, will you do something for
me?" Rose asked him.
"Anything," Jack said.
"Kiss me," Rose said.
"I thought you'd never ask," Jack
said, and they kissed.
When they pulled apart, they both noticed
what time it was.
"It's ten-thirty. We have to be home by
ten forty-five," Jack said.
Jack turned the car on and "their"
song was playing, 'Where you are' by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.
"Let's go," Rose said, and they
went home, lucky enough to be home by ten-forty.
"How was the party?" Tom asked.
"It was fine," Rose said.
"Jack?" Tom asked.
"We made farting noises with our
armpits," Jack said.
"Whatever," Ruth and Tom said in
unison.
"Well, we have school tomorrow,"
Rose said.
"Dear, it's summer vacation," Ruth
said.
"Oh, I knew that," Rose said.
"Get upstairs. It's time for bed,
anyway," Tom said.
"Okay," Rose said, knowing she
would be over in Jack's bed. She and Jack had adjoining rooms.
Jack ran up the stairs, and Rose followed
him. They finally got to where their parents didn't see them.
"I'll see you in a little bit,"
Jack said, giving her a small kiss.
"Okay," Rose said when they pulled
apart.
Rose changed into her pajamas and sneaked
into Jack's bedroom, where he was waiting.
"I was waiting," Jack said.
"I noticed," Rose replied.
"Where to?" Jack asked her.
"To the stars," Rose said.
They made love that night. Ruth and Tom
didn't even notice the passion growing between these two.
