SUMMER IN SANTA MONICA
Chapter Nine
Rose woke up at three thirty in the morning,
to the sound of Jack's heart. "Jack, I need to sneak into my room."
"Okay. I'll help you," Jack said,
sleepily.
"What is it?" Rose asked him, when
she noticed him staring at her.
"You're just so beautiful," Jack
said, and he kissed her.
"I love you," Rose said, when they
pulled apart.
"I love you, too," Jack said. He
had never felt this way about anybody.
Rose put on her pajamas, and Jack had his
boxers on. He was helping her get out of the room.
Rose slowly opened the door to her room, and
the door squeaked. She was lucky enough that her parents were hard sleepers.
"Love you," Jack said, as Rose was
closing the door.
"Love you, too," Rose said, then
shut the door.
THE NEXT MORNING
Rose sleepily walked downstairs. "Hey,
mom. Hey, dad."
"Hey, honey," Ruth said.
"Hello, sweetpea," Tom said.
"How did you sleep?" Ruth asked
her.
'With Jack,' she thought, but held her
thoughts. "Fine."
"Wonderful," Tom and Ruth said in
unison.
"Hey all," Jack said, running
downstairs.
"Hey, Jack," Rose said.
"Hey, Jackie," Tom and Ruth said in
unison.
"How did you sleep?" Ruth asked
him.
"Great," Jack said, looking at
Rose, who was now blushing.
"Excellent news," Tom said, trying
to act happy.
"Mom, Tasha's having a party and she
invited Jack and me," Rose said.
"Okay. You can go," Ruth said.
"Ruthie, are you all right?" Tom
asked her.
"They're kids, Thomas. Let them have
fun," Ruth replied.
"Okay," Tom said, doubting her.
"Well, let's get ready, Jack," Rose
said.
"Okay, Rose," Jack said, and they
both ran upstairs to get ready for the party.
"They seem closer now," Ruth said.
"A little too close," Tom said.
