THREE MEN AND A LADY
Chapter Twelve
Fabrizio cowered in the attic.
His encounter with Ruth had left him very frightened. He leaned against the
wall; peering out a small hole in the corner, he was able to watch all that
went on below.

Rose gritted her teeth, willing
herself not to scream. Jack and Cal stared at each other in shock and fear.
Ruth sat in their living room, drinking tea and eating the scones Cal had
hidden from them all. She was decked out in full Vegas showgirl clothes.
Jack attempted to begin a
conversation. "It's been what, ninety-one years?"
Ruth looked at him pointedly.
"What?"
Jack sighed. He should have
expected this.
Cal replied to her question
before Jack spoke. "We haven't seen you in a long time," he said.
"Why are you here?"
Ruth smiled. "I came to
stay."
Rose found her voice. "For
how long?"
"Oh, I don't really know.
Could be a week, could be a year or so."
All three of them stared. This
was not good, not good at all.

Fabrizio watched it all with wide
eyes. He also didn't wish Ruth to stay. The last time he had seen her had been
right after Jack and Rose had gotten married. It had not been a pleasant
meeting.
He decided that something had to
be done. Letting out a war whoop, he plunged down the stairs, Super Soaker in
hand.
