THREE MEN AND A LADY
Chapter Seventeen
Jack later said that the hardest
part was getting Fabrizio untangled. But that was later. At the time, the
hardest thing was getting everyone calmly into the living room.
Rose and Jack clearly heard the
noise in the attic. They immediately ran down to investigate. Rose collided
with Cal on the stairs, and thus the two landed in a twisted heap.
Jack slid on the rug beside the
attic door and fell into an open closet.
Ruth and Tommy didn’t realize
they had indeed landed on a live person.
Cal managed to get up, but only
after Rose shoved him off of her.
"What the hell is going
on?" she yelled.
"I don’t know." Cal
shrugged.
By now, Jack had managed to get
out of the closet and join them at the bottom of the stairs.
"Where are the others?"
"Uh…"
They stared at the dark hallway.
"Well, we should go
see…" Rose began.
Cal shook his head. "Don’t
wanna."
"Come on." Jack turned
and went up the stairs. Rose followed, pulling Cal along behind her.
Two Hours Later
Tommy and Ruth sat on the couch.
Fabrizio lay on the chair. The other three stood.
"You cannot stay here."
Rose broke the silence.
Ruth started. "Why
not?"
"Because you’re driving us
crazy!" Cal yelled shrilly.
"So, you’re saying what,
exactly?"
"We’re saying you have to
leave!" Jack jumped onto the table. "We’re losing all sanity because
of you people!"
"Oh. Why didn’t you just say
so?"
They got up from the couch, and
were gone just as quickly as they had come.
The End.
