In the summer of 1988 I had two things on my mind. One of them was breaking into the film business.
I figured if I actually made a movie the other would follow, so I raised $40K from ten different investors, and along with my friends, set out to make the now legendary cult-classic teen comedy, ASSAULT OF THE PARTY NERDS. The film, and its sequel, THE HEAVY PETTING DETECTIVE, after having aired on HBO, Showtime and TBS, are out on DVD through Vanguard Cinema in a special collectors edition.
My film and TV career actually got started with a starring role in the low-budget feature, NIGHTMARE SISTERS, but since then, I've produced/written/directed
and/or appeared in over 50 films, television shows and TV commercials including a co-starring role in MGM's AFTER MIDNIGHT and a starring role in the cult classic DINOSAUR ISLAND. Most recently, I appeared in Fred Olen Rays CRITICAL MASS, with Treat Williams, FINAL EXAM with Kari Wuhrer, and RAPTOR with Eric Roberts and Corbin Bernson.
After my Party Nerds experience, I directed/starred in two movies for Menahem Golan's 21st Century Films; the Columbia Pictures Home Video release, VIRGIN HIGH and its sequel, HOT UNDER THE COLLAR. Next was VICE GIRLS, an urban thriller spoof that I directed and starred in from a screenplay by A. Michael Baldwin.
I had blast shooting KICKBOXING ACADEMY, my first foray into family films. The film, was shot on location in Miami's South Beach - sort of strange place to try and make a wholesome movie. We did our best. The movie stars Steven Bauer, and Chyler Leigh. Chyler has gone on to do really well. She starred in Not Another Teen Movie and is currently a regular on The Practice. Since April of 1999, "KICK" has been airing on both Showtime and HBO, and has just been released on video and DVD through MTI.
VIRTUAL GIRL, my seventh film as director, was the first to involve special effects. This Fatal Attraction in the virtual world features 21 minutes worth of state-of-the-art CGI and is currently airing on SHOWTIME along with its sequel Virtual Vegas.
In the Summer of 2000 I had the opportunity to produce, along with Ari Bass, my friend Lawrence Greenberg's short film MEN NAMED MILO WOMEN NAMED GRETA starring Jeremy Sisto, Jonathan Silverman, Sally Kirkland and Allen Garfield. The film was an Official Selection at The Sundance Film Festival.
W.C. Fields warned every filmmaker against working with kids and animals, but my experience on THE BIKE SQUAD (which features children and dogs), a family-friendly adventure, was quite the contrary. With two little girls of my own, I'm currently putting together a slate of family oriented feature films including GOLDIE, a magical adventure about a talking goldfish. In the meantime, the Squad should be riding into video stores and TV sets around the world later this year.
The Los Angeles Times gave us a nice review for my first 2004 film, MOTO X KIDS.
