For Special Services- John Gardner 1982

Summary- A series of highjacks have been occurring on planes carrying expensive cargo. Bond prevents one of them, and gets a hint that a new SPECTRE may be to blame. Bond is led by the clues to Marcus Bismaquer ranch in Texas, along with Cedar Leiter, Felix's daughter.
Bond soon discovers that Marcus Bismaquer and his assistant Walter Luxor are planning to steal the top-secret information about the Star Wolves. These are weapon satellites that give America an edge in the space race. However, Bond can't figure out which of the two men is the new Blofeld.
Bismaquer has an ice cream factory that has shipped ice cream to NORAD, where the Star Wolf data is found. This ice cream has a hallucinogen that makes people willing to follow any orders. Bond is then captured and drugged. He is brainwashed into thinking he is a general and sent to get the data. Seemingly, Nena Bismaquer, Marcus' wife, slipped Bond pills to wear off the drug. Bond realizes who he is and saves the data.
Later, Nena Bismaquer is revealed as Nena Blofeld, Ernst Stavro Blofeld's daughter. Felix and Cedar Leiter show up, and Felix finishes Nena off.
My Grade- A   There are a lot of returns in this book. SPECTRE is back and headed by a Blofeld. Felix Leiter returns, although his daughter has a more significant role. The story is action-packed. Overall, Gardner's second book is better that the first.
Best Moment- The entire "Grand Prix" chapter is excellent. In no other book have Bond's driving skills been shown so well.
Also Notable- The return (though brief) of Felix Leiter, and the introduction of his daughter are very welcome in Gardner's books.
