Instinctively, Indiana took a step back, and doing so saved his life. Spears shot out from the sides of the walls. They extended on long poles, and overlapped in the middle of the room, forming a barrier of vertical bars. Had Indiana not taken a step back, he would have been impaled.
Indiana looked around for a way to reset the trap and retract the bars. After several minutes of searching he realized he wouldn’t find it without an extensive search. He was at a dead end. (Although not as dead as it might have been.) He turned around and backtracked down the passage. He would begin to dig his way out. His curiosity was temporarily gone.
