Octopussy was produced in 1983 by Eon Productions. In this year, Talia Films produced a rival James Bond film, Never Say Never Again, starring Sean Connery. Therefore, Broccoli wanted to make this Bond great. Moore agreed to return for at least this movie. This was the first movie in which his contract was negotiated as a single film. (He originally was signed on for five films.) With Moore's return, all that was needed was a good story. The scriptwriters chose to use part of the plot from Fleming's short story "Property of a Lady" for the film, however, not much was kept, except the idea of the Faberge Egg. (Note that the description of the egg in this movie was "Property of a Lady".)
At the start of this movie, 009 is killed with a Faberge Egg in his hand. Bond is sent to discover why someone would kill over the egg. When he investigates, Bond discovers a connection between the egg, an elaborate smuggling operation, and a Soviet generals attempt to instigate a war in order to use Soviet, superior force to take over parts of other countries.
A NOTE ON THE THEME SONG: All Time High was written by Tim Rice, and performed by Rita Coolidge. This is the first time that a Bond song with lyrics did not have the title's name sung in the song.
MY GRADE: C  Moore looks a little old to be Bond, and six movies in a row with him is one too many in my opinion. This movie has some action, but it doesn't have the usual Bond flair to it. The story is a little weak, and doesn't have as much action as the usual Bond film. Plus, I'm not too fond of Maud Adams as a repeat leading lady.
BEST MOMENT: The fight scene on the outside of the train is quite exciting. I've always been a fan of the train action scenes that occur frequently in Bond movies.
DID YOU KNOW...*Maud Adams was never intended to get the part. She was asked to help screen test potential Bonds, in case Moore decided not to return to the role. However, since she was there, and Broccoli liked her, she got the part.
*When a bicycle rides between the two cars in the chase scene, that was not planned. It was a native simply going along. Since it was caught on camera and looked good, it was incorporated into the scene.
*A stunt man was seriously injured in the train scene, and spent six months in the hospital.
*The scene in which Bond is hunted comes from a short story, "The Most Dangerous Game".
*This movie out grossed the competing Bond movie, Never Say Never Again.
