Win, Lose, or Die- John Gardner 1989

Summary- A new terrorist organization known as BAST, the Brotherhood of Anarchy and Secret Terror, has been formed by Bassam Baradj. He plans on kidnapping the British Prime Minister, Russian Prime Minister, and the U.S. President to hold them hostage for six hundred billion dollars. To do this, BAST has infiltrated the HMS Invincible, on which the three politicians are meeting in what is known as Stewards' Meeting.
Bond is put back on active duty in the Royal Navy, and it is his job to protect the three leaders. Bond trains for many months and is assigned to the Invincible. After some trouble and double-crossing, Bond manages to secure the Invincible, and stops Baradj.
My Grade- B-   This novel is not as good as some of Gardner's work. However, it shows Bond back in the RN, his old stomping grounds. I might not have liked this adventure the best, but I think that Bond probably enjoyed it.
Best Moment- This is the only novel so far that really shows off Bond's skill as a pilot. In the movies it has been seen, most notably in Live and Let Die and Tomorrow Never Dies. Bond out-maneuvers a Spanish pilot in this book. He is really a very skilled pilot.
Also Notable- Bond is promoted to the rank of Captain in this novel.
