In 1992, he began his stage career. He has starred in numerous London plays, and was nominated for an Olivier Award in the Outstanding Newcomer category. While his first performances of the play "Indiscretions" were in London, he later moved, and did the play on Broadway, starring with Kathleen Turner. He received a Tony nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor, and was rewarded the Theatre World Award. After his brush with Broadway, he began acting in independent films. His first major movie was Gattaca, with Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, and he also had a considerable role in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
