Corporate Business (1992)

While severely flawed in technical and other aspects, Scott's CORPORATE BUSINESS does still manage to entertain in spots.

The Story:

Set at "The Ideal House Of 1992" (a home believed by the company in the film to be the best type of home to live in for that year), a group of company officers gather to promote their ideas. However, Clifford is a CEO hassled by his psychotic boss William, who believes that gruff mannerisms and punching employees promotes good business. After knocking out Clifford in a fight, Cliff decides he's fed up with William's nutzo ways and sinks a knife into his guts, killing him. Disposing of the body, he then hits upon a plan: Disguise company drug addict Zep to look like William to fool the head honcho Patrick Henry Fillmore Jr. Will they be able to pull it off? And if they don't, at what cost to them?

Behind the scenes:

"Corporate Business was one of those films that read good on paper, but turn into one unmanageable mess on film." recalls Scott of his film, shot in October of 1992. "The film starts out pretty well, but then takes a nosedive once Shira and Becky come on. Not that they can't act, but Tim and I made a mistake of letting them do camerawork, etc." Of course, when Scott means "Can't Act", he is meaning that well-known anti-actor CHUCK BIGELOW ! "God damn, Chuck was as controllable as trying to put a fist thro' the eye of a needle. Generally, once you're shot, you're dead. Not Chuck! That's the first and last time I try to direct a 10 year-old. Granted, some my age get all nuts and try to do what they want in front of the camera. Two words for them: GET LOST." Needless to say, Scott's 1996 plan for a remake of this film (entitled DEAD LEASE) didn't materialize. "Maybe someday, when I got the good luck to pull off this story."
