The story:
"Sebastian Pine" is a mild, low-key mystery that tells the story of the title character, a vacuum
cleaner salesman who comes home from work one day to find his wife murdered. With the
help of a detective, and Dr. Oates (the family doctor) and Martin Laramack (the neighbor/
builder), they try to figure out the mystery. But, the killer is pretty close to home, as Sebastian
soon finds out.
Behind the scenes:
"Sebastian Pine" was naver meant to be more than a simple, keep-the-creative-juices-flowing
mystery." says Scott of this film. "I am happy with the end results, as well as the narrative style
of the film. The end of the film is shown at the beginning, but not with enough to give away
the idenity of the killer. Then, the film flashes back to later that day, then that flashes back
to a year ago."
On a lighter note, Scott recalled the original intentions on the first draft of the script. "Originally, this was supposed to be about a film about a nebbish dingus who could turn himself into a TREE, hence the name Sebastian Pine. But for whatever reasons, we went with the murder-mystery instead of the goofy fantasy slant."
