In A Bad State Of Mind (1995)

Scott's only film of 1995 is a variation on the classic french mystery "Diabolique".
In Scott's version, penned by him and Arthur in 1993, two brothers are distressed when their father Cameron invites drunkard Uncle Ralph over, who is on his way out east.
Ralph proves to be too much, however, admitting incestual fantasies about his sister (the late wife of Cameron, who was murdered 6 months earlier), and eventually attacking one of the brothers. Thrown out of the house, he returns to extract revenge but is murdered by brother Darren.
Disposing of the body, the brothers think their problems are over. But, when evidence surfaces that Ralph is still alive and out to kill the family, things start to spiral out of control, leading to a double-twisted climax.

Behind the scenes:

Widely considered by most to be Scott's best picture, this mystery almost didn't make it to the screen at all. "I was supposed to make another film, an end-of-the-world picture called "The Climax", but things didn't pan out. This was my 'plan B', and in a way, I'm happy my original plans fell through."
"I watched "Diabolique" when I was younger, and I've always liked the plotline. I wanted to make some changes to it, make it more twisting, if that's possible. I had to watch myself, though." Scott remarks. "Blood Puzzle" was one of those films where I threw in too many plot twists, and it just screwed everything up. This film I feel had the right amount of twist."
