to the memory of James Kearnan Corporal 3 Troop Hon Coy's Horse
Artillery. Shot to death for desertion by Sentence of a General
Court Martial 19 March 1817. Age 26. A uniform steady conduct
as a soldier mark'd his character previous to the unfortunate
affair of which he lies here the victim. The falling off from
which we have in his own words associating with unprincipled companions.
The 3rd Troop Horse Artillery erects this monument of their regard
to his unfortunate memory..."

sentry at Peshawar 23 Feb. 1901. Aged 25 yrs. At his post where
the Khyber shadows pacing to and fro, fearing not the dangers
nor the Muslims, his hidden foe, the gathering dark had deepened,
the heart of the night had come, a flash, a report, then a silence,
the ghastly deed was done. Stout heart, staunch friend, brave
sentinel, borne on our shoulders high, gently to rest we lay thee
here, thy memory shall not die. Erected by his brother comrades."

Memorial at All Saint's Church, Peshawar - "Dilawar Khan of the Khattack tribe. Bon 1816.
In early life a noted robber. Enlisted in the Corps of Guides
and rose to be Subedar. With them he served in 1857 before Delhi
and in the Ambeyla War in 1863. He was baptized in Peshawar 23
May 1858. Sent on an important errand by the Government, he perished
in the snows near Chitral in 1869 leaving a great name as a loyal
servant of his Queen and a fearless soldier of Christ."
