Chapter Six: And the Truth Comes Out?

'Think fast Mac. You can't let him know who you are not yet anyways.' Nick had just walked in from the kitchen to find them talking. When he got no responce he asked again. "Tell Nick what?"

Mac looked at Brian for help but he gave her a 'your-own-on-this-one' look. Mac sighed. "That..um..well that Brian and I are going out tonight." It was the best she could think of. Plus Brian was cute so really she didn't mind if he didn't.

Brian looked at her suprised and confused.

Nick laughed "And why do I care?"

"Ya don't but you walked in on what we were talking about. Brian was just concerned cause we don't get along all that well..."

"Yeah so where are ya guys headed tonight?"

"Dinner and a movie?" Brian asked not sounding sure of himself but Mackenzie nodded.

"Yep yep!" She smiled.

"That's cool.! I knew there was a reason for me coming out here...oh yeah Mac my Mom want's to talk to you about something." Mac nodded and headed inside.

"Jane!" Mackenzie yelled getting no response. Walking a little further she found herself downstairs looking at Jane who was watching TV. Jane looked up.

"Makenzie I wanted to talk to you about Nick-"

Mac cut her off. "Okay I know what your thinking. When are you going to tell him? I'll do it tonight when I get home from my date with Brian. Is that alright?" She nodded. "Okay can I go now? If that's all you wanted that is."

"Sure Sweetie have fun tonight!"

"Thanks Jane I will." Mac smiled and walked away.

---------------

Brian looked at himself in the mirror hoping tonight would go as planned. He really likes Mackenzie but still had to wonder if she really wanted to go out with him or if what she said was just to get out of telling Nick the truth. Either way he had a date with Mac. Taking a glance in the mirror one last time he smiled and walked downstairs to see Mac dressed and ready sitting on the couch wating for him.

"Ahh and isn't it always the guy that's waiting on the girl?" Mac asked.

Brian smiked. "I wanted to look pretty!"

Mac laughed and asked "You ready to go?"

Brian nodded and they headed out to the Carter car. Earlier that day Brian had asked to borrow it on a count of Nick and himself flew to Cail. They talked the way there until Brian finally pulled into the parking lot of The Olive Garden.

"I figured we would eat and then later after we could! go to the movies."

"That's fine." Mac smiled.

Walking in they sat down and waited for somebody to come serve them.

"So what kind of movies do you like?" Mac asked Brian.

"Mostly comedy. I'm a funny freak! Wait that didn't come out right did it?" Brian laughed. Just then the waitress came up and the two ordered.

They talked and made jokes all through out dinner.

---------------

Once again Nick sat alone in his room thinking. But this time about Mackenzie. What was it about her? Why did Nick feel like he has known her all his life? They didn't get along too well but everybody knew this. But then again they never gave each other a chance and didn't talk much to begin with. It was only been a few days he had been to his family's house. He wanted to talk to her he really did but didn't know what to say.

He had this feeling. Something big was going to happen. Something that would be life changing. Good or bad? He didn't know yet but knew he would be finding out very soon. He sighed. 'I hope everything goes good with Mac and Bri. He deserves this after Leighanne.' Me made a mental note to ask about the date later.

---------------

After dinner Brian and Mackenzie headed over to the local theater after asking for directions first. Getting lost once they didn't need that happening again. They decided to see "Cats and Dogs" it being a comedy they both would like.

After the movie they ended home both enjoying the night they had together. They were standing outside of the door waiting to go in.

"I had a great night." Brian said.

Mac smiled. "I did too."

Starring at each other the two didn't know what to say next. Already feeling uncomfortable Brian decide to go for it and leaned in to kiss her.

It was a short kiss but sweet. 'Nothing.' Mac thought. Brian was a nice guy and very sweet but she couldn't be with him if she didn't feel anything in that kiss. They were better off as friends 'I'll talk to him about it tomorrow.'

Smiling Mac pulled away and thanked him. They headed inside and Mackenzie told Brian she had to go up and talk to Nick. But first she headed upstairs to room to change into her PJ's.

Walking across the hall she knocked on Nick's door. She heard "Come in!" Walking in Nick looked at her.

"Hey do you want something?" Nick asked.

Mackenzie sighed. 'It's now or never.' Sitting down on Nick bed she said "Nick I have to talk to you it's really important."

"You didn't do anything to Brian did you? He just got out of a relationship not too long ago and-" Mac cut him off.

"No, no it's not that. Nick-" She paused. "Gosh this is really hard for me. Nick I'm...I'm not who you think I am."

Nick looked at her confused. "Of course your not. I mean I don't even know you. What am I suppost to think of you?"

"No Nick you don't get it. I'm still shocked you don't know who I am."

Again Nick looked confused. "Uhh...yeah then who are you?"

Taking a deep breath she began to tell him. Nothing could prepare Nick for what he was about to hear....
