Prolouge: Looking Back

There he lay alone with his eyes closed, in another Hotel room. Where was he this week? Wasn't sure at this point. With all the touring Nick hardly had the time to breathe let alone think about what city he was in this week.

For a few more minutes Nick lay there silently thinking. A moment later he got up and turned on the bed side lamp. The light illuminated the room as he walked over to a duffle page laying on the floor and opened it. Rummaged through it he pulled out an old medium sized green and gold framed photo. On the bottom of the frame it read in blue pant, 'Nick and Abbey, Best Friends Forever' Nick couldn't help but smile.

There with their arms around each other sat a young boy and girl no more than the age of 13 sitting on a swing in a backyard he recognized as his own. Their he sat with his left arm around a girl with long brown hair. Abigail Mackenzie Morgan. Nick's best friend from Tampa. Nick had a mop of blonde hair and a smile on his face. The girl, Abbey on the other hand, did! n't look too happy. He couldn't blame her. It was the day he left...

Nick still remembered that day the picture was taken. It was the day he left to become a Backstreet Boy leaving his life behind in Tampa, Florida.

-Flashback-

It was the day Nick would be leaving to join the Backstreet Boys. Nick and Abbey were standing around saying their goodbyes while Nick's mother, Jane loaded the car. She would be going with him.

"Ya know, you leaving is going to tear everything apart?" Abbey asked. "I'm going to miss you."

"Abbey, nothing is going to change. I'll only be gone for a few months. A year at the most. Besides it'll be like I'm not even gone. You'll see. You'll get so wrapped up in everything, in you own life you won't even notice that I'm gone and it'll be like Nick who?'" Secretly he hoped she wouldn't forget him and they would never lose touch. "I'll call when ever I can, I promise." Abbey nooded her head.

"Nick I have to tell you something. I'm-" Jane cut her off. "Nick, five more minutes and were out of here" Jane yelled.

"Alright Mom" He yelled back.

Abbey looked at Nick. He looked so excited so how was she going to break the bad news to him now? 'I can't do this' I can't tell him I'm moving away. It would break his heart.

Nick turned back to Abbey. "What were you saying?" Nick asked.

"I'm..I'm...happy for you Nick. I want to wish you luck...I know your gonna make it" Abbey smiled. Nick grabbed her in a hug.

"You have no idea how ! much that means to me. I'm going to miss you more than anything. Rememeber NOBODY will take your place not even Brian." Nick laughed. Abbey tryed to smile. She was starting to feel guilty for not telling him when she had the chance.

"Well I think its time for me to go." Nick said. His mom was calling him. "I'll call when I get the first chance. Bye!"They hugged once more then Abbey let go.

With that Nick left. Abbey was heartbroken. All she could think about when the Carter car drove away was if she was ever going to see him again. She felt guilty but knew she was doing the right thing. Her mother got a new job in California. It was high paying because their family didn't make much money it wasn't something her mother could pass up. It was too good a deal. Abbey found this out a week before but wasn't sure if she wanted to worry Nick because he would be busy with the tour and group anyways. Nick didn't need that. Her parents also were getting divorced. Abbey and her father didn't get along too great and he would soon be moving away too.

Abbey turned around and walked back to her house across the street. She had lots of packing to do.

-End Flashback-

He had called a few times within that week he had gone. But when they did talk it wasn't for long. One afternoon he called there and found Abbey had moved. He was heartbroken. He never forgave her for that. But he missed talking to her. Nick still couldn't understand why Abbey moving never came up in the times they talked.

Whenever Nick got home sick he pulled out the picture of both him and Abbey. He could stare at it for hours just w! ondering what happened. Like the picture would magicly answer all his questions and solve all his problems.

Tomorrow he would be going home. Not too long ago Nick bought his own house a few miles away from his parents' place (later his family moved to California). It was off the water, He would finally be in his own bed, in his own room for the first time in months.

Nick sat the frame back in his bag. Tomorrow it would all be over. He definately needed a break. Nick layed back down and thought about this time tomorrow he would be back in his bed. He could help but smile at the thought.
