Kris' First Day

General Hammond shook his head as he looked at the young woman sitting on the other side of his desk dressed in army fatigues sporting an air of total self-confidence. 'I still can't believe she made it to the gate room before she was discovered.' The General was startled from his musings as he was connected to the President's office.

"General Hammond! How are you?" the President asked.

"Fine sir and you?" General Hammond was anxious to get the pleasantries over with and find out if what the young woman in front of him told him was the truth.

"Good, good! So what can I do for you?"

General Hammond could almost hear the smile in the Presidents voice. 'Damn I can see I'm not going to like this.'

"No sir, I didn't. Truth is I have a slight situation here at the mountain and she says you know about it!"

'Hmm, been called lots of things before, but never a situation,' she thought.

"Ah I see you've met Kris then!" the president chuckled over the line.

"So what she's telling me is true then. You sent her here to check the security of the facility and to observe operations for you?"

"Yes, general, I did!"

"May I ask why?"

"In the past two years there have been a number of security breaches or near-breaches at that facility and seeing as Kris is the best in her field I thought her the best to review the situation there on my behalf. I'll be forwarding you a detailed background report on Kris. While she will be reporting back to me on a weekly basis, she is under your command until I request other wise. Kris has full clearance on everything on this assignment know that her security level is the same as mine. Kris managed to handle a number of high level security issues here for me, including foiling that last assassination attempt, so there's no one that I trust more for this assignment."

"I understand sir! What about 'Gate travel?"

"That's expected too. I want her to see how the teams handle themselves off world, but there's only one team I trust her to go with and that's SG-1. Can't have anything happening to my top security person now can I."

General Hammond shook his head, "No sir! We can't have that. Ok I'll get her situated here."

Hanging up the phone he turned to the young woman once again.

"Well General Hammond," Kris started before the general could speak, "I'm assuming the president corroborated what I told you?"

"Yes, he certainly did. So why don't we get you settled in and we can get rolling in the morning."

"That's ok sir I'd like to get started now. I understand SG-1 will be debriefing on their last mission in 10 minutes."

"Yes they are." General Hammond could feel what was coming next at the same time wondering how Kris had found out this information.

"Fine then I'll be there. I expect to be notified of all briefing and debriefings. I won't be attending all of them but I've been asked to do spot checks on the other teams."

The General smiled to himself, well if she wanted to sit in on these meetings what better way to introduce her to them the by starting with one Colonel O'Neill and SG-1.

"Fine, fine, see Lieutenant Simmons and he'll get you a copy of the briefing report."

"Thank you sir!"

General Hammond watched as Kris rose from her seat and left his office. 'Just wait until Jack gets his hands on her. She won't know what hit her.' Chuckling, the general could almost imagine what the Colonel's face was going to look like when he was introduced to SG-1's new shadow.

Kris arrived in the conference room before the general and SG-1, taking a seat at the table, Kris dove into the original briefing report. Before long Kris was aware of people entering the room.

Major Carter was surprised to see a young woman sitting at the table obviously pouring over a report as she and Teal'c entered the conference room. Dropping her stuff on the table, Sam approached the woman.

Finishing a note, Kris rose from her chair and met Sam half way. Extending her hand, she introduced herself. "Hi, Kris Keogh."

"Major Samantha Carter and this is Teal'c."

"I've heard nothing but good things about SG-1, major."

Before they could go any further, General Hammond entered the room, followed closely by two men.

Kris took a brief moment to look over the two men as they took their seats at the table. Both were handsome and she found herself attracted to both almost immediately. 'Oh man, get a grip girl. Can't be having those thoughts if you're gonna be off world with them.'

Colonel Jack O'Neill stopped abruptly as he entered the room, causing Dr Daniel Jackson to slam into the back of him. Looking around Jack, Daniel noticed the young woman standing near Sam. 'Wonder what's up?' he thought. Daniel gently nudged Jack in the back, propelling him into the room.

Taking their seats at the table, everyone turned their attention to General Hammond as he cleared his throat.

"Ok before we start the briefing I would like to introduce you to Kris Keogh." Kris nodded to each member of the team as the General introduced each one of them to her. 'Colonel O'Neill and Dr Jackson! Hmmmm, I think I'm going to like this assignment.'

General Hammond continued on explaining to SG-1 why Kris had joined them. Finally the general arrived at the best part, telling Colonel O'Neill that Kris would be joining his team off world.

"Also, one of the things that the president asked was that Kris travel off world with SG-1 to see how things are handled."

General Hammond was not surprised by the sudden outburst from Colonel O'Neill.

"EXCUSE ME!" Colonel O'Neill looked from first from General Hammond the to Kris. "You expect me to baby-sit the president's spy! I mean, come on, we don't have time to worry about making sure this one's kept out of trouble!"

"Colonel, we have no choice in the matter. The president wants Ms Keogh assigned to your team."

"Colonel O'Neill you have nothing to worry about, I'm more than able to take care of myself in any situation."

"That is not the issue here, you're a civilian for cryin out loud!"

"Um, Jack! So am I!" Dr Jackson threw in.

To say that she was impressed that the archeologist didn't fold under the glare that Colonel O'Neill leveled at him was an understatement. Kris had seen stronger men than he fold under looks like that. 'Wonder what's up there,' she thought.

"Colonel O'Neill, I suggest you get over this temper tantrum. The president assigned me here a minimum of six months in order to gain a better understanding of the situation here. Now seeing as your team is as he said 'one of the best' I've been asked to work with you. I assure you that I'm able to pull my own weight on this team."

General Hammond watched as Colonel O'Neill continued to glare at Kris for a few seconds. 'This is going to make for some very interesting times around here.'

"Whatever! Just make sure you do and I expect you do what I say when I say it! I won't have you putting the members of my team at risk. Is that understood?"

"Understood, sir!"

"Ok people, SG-1 is on stand down for two days. Kris, Lieutenant Simmons will see to getting you set up in an office and has orders to get you whatever you need to get to work, be prepared to join SG-1 on their next mission."

"Yes sir! I would like a few moments of your time later today to go over some of the things that the president requested I review."

"That can be arranged."

"Dismissed! Colonel O'Neill can I see you in my office for a moment?"

"Yes sir!"

Kris didn't miss the look that Colonel O'Neill threw at her before he turned and headed into the general's office.

'Come hell or high water I'm going to prove myself to Colonel Jack O'Neill,' Kris thought before turning and getting to know the rest of SG-1 better.

The End
