1999 Southwest District Livestock Show and Dixie National Junior
Roundup
In February, many of the Franklin County FFA members attended the
SW District and Dixie National Livestock Shows. All members are
to be commended for the excellent representation. In the SW
District Show, John Kelly had the Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis
Bull, and Kayla and Kristin Holland had the Reserve Champion
Santa Gertrudis Bull. Also over the weekend, the booster club had
a reception honoring the FFA's seniors, they are Michael Lynn
Tynes, Mandy Kerben, Nathan Steele, and John Kelly. We would like
to thank the adults for making this possible. At the Dixie
National Livestock Show the Franklin County FFA had the Grand
Simbrah Bull and Heifer both owned by Samantha Zeigler. Also
Kayla and Kristin Holland had the Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis
Bull. John Kelly exhibited the Reserve Champion Santa Gertrudis
Bull, which was also the High Point Santa Gertrudis Bull for the
1998-99 Show year. The FFA members exhibiting livestock were
Michael Lynn Tynes, Nathan Steele, Mandy Kerben, John Kelly,
Samantha Zeigler, Kayla Holland, Kristin Holland, and Seth
Shelton. Also while at the livestock shows, the Franklin County
FFA also had a Junior and Senior Livestock Judging Teams. The
Junior team consisting of Kristin Holland, Kayla Holland, Seth
Shelton, and Doug Kerben, place second place. The Senior
Livestock Judging Team placed second also. The team members were,

Woodcock. Nathan Steele was also the high-scoring individual.
1998 National FFA Convention
The Franklin FFA Chapter was well represented at the 71st
National FFA Convention! Students enjoyed speakers such as Robin
Roberts and Baxter Black. The students attending were Michael
Lynn Tynes, Melissa Monroe, Samantha Zeigler, Candice Jones,
Amanda Shelton, Tabitha Lambert, Bridget Beach, Nathan Steele,
John Kelly, and Steve Lofton. Each student learned a lot about
the FFA, and what the FFA has to offer. It is great to "Make
the Connection" from students to agriculture through the FFA.
