How long have we been saying it?
I'm not sure when we started say it or who started it.
In 1997, it was outlawed because of some curse words in its verse.
We brought it back this year with a cleaner version.
What is it?
An insult that is used to tell a band to go home and to humiliate them.
When is it used?
It is only used on two occations. We use it when a band leaves
first in the "5th Quarter." We also use it when we do the mesh of the bands
in Band Camp.
Who can say it?
The whole band sings it.
How is it used?
The tubas start of playing the bass line and we com in singing:
"..Go Back Home.
...Go Back Home...
....Go Back Home.....
...That's Where You Belong....
.....Go Back Home .....
....Take Your Dead Act On...."
It gets a good laugh.
How long have we been saying it?
I'm not sure when we started say it or who started it.
What is it?
A saying that is yelled very loudly to humiliate opposing bands.
When we say it it always gets a
laugh.
When is it used?
At games and other performances when other bands play music that is
weak and they don't fully know it we use this saying.
Who can say it?
Ususally it is said by the entire band. However, any member or
section can say it
How is it used?
Usually someone counts it off and everybody says it loudly in unison.
How long have we been saying it?
We have been saying it problably scince the early 70's when we changed
our name from "The Little Band with the Big Sound" to"The Sonic Boom of
the South." Back in those days band practice could last as late as
5:00 in the mourning. I guess they coin the expression to stay focoused
on the task.
What is it?
A saying that is yelled very loudly to reinerate our rich love for
our band.
When is it used?
It can be said anytime. Usually, it is said right before we end
band practice.
It is also said during hard times and after the band directors go off
on us.
Who can say it?
Any band member or directorcan say it.
How is it used?
Someone will say or yell: "love the Boom!" If you around when
it is said or even overhear it said then you imediately reapeat: "love
the Boom!" Usually the Head Band Director Dr. Lewis Liddell will
say it at the end of band practice before we dismiss. He will loudly
yell: "love the Boom!" The whole band will imediatly respond in unison
just a loud or louder: "love the Boom!"
How long have we been saying it?
We have been saying it problably since the begining of the band program
in the late 40's. Marching band is a paramilitary organization.
We adopted this saying from the ROTC and othe millitary agencys.
Until around 1995 or s you would say "Push the Earth!" Around that time
it was shortened to just Push."
What is it?
A saying that is used to tell someone to get down and do push us. Push-ups
are a form of puishment.
When is it used?
It can be said during practice or anytime out of uniform..
Who can say it?
Any band member or director can say it. Anyone can say it if they are
ahead of you in the chain of command.
How is it used?
When someone messes up or when someone does some disrespect to themselves,
member of the band, or otherwise. It is used when anyone breaks the
code of conduct as layed iout by the band staff. The person repremanding
you will tell you what you did wrong and then he or she will tell you "Push!"
How long have we been saying it?
We have been saying these problably since 1995 or so.
Nobody knows exactly where we got them from.
What is it?
Insults that are used to tell a person, section, or band that
they are horrible, garbage, useless, terrible, or not good. It can
be used to describe any aspect of their marching band performance or performances.
When is it used?
It can be said during practice or anytime to anyone. We usually
say it in talking noise to other sections or bands and their members after
and during performance. However, the band staff does not approve
of its use during performances. Sometimes we break the roles and
say it anyway when we it is to hard to resist. Sometimes we use it
to tell one of our own how they are doing. When we tell it to one
of our own, hopefully, they take this as an catlyst to get better.
When we tell it to other bands we don't care if they get better, and we
hope they take it as an insult.
Who can say it?
Any band member or director can say it if they see fit. Anyone
can say it if they believe it nessasary.
How is it used?
It is used in a sentence like these: "Your band is Shot!" "Your trombone
section is Slaw!" "You are slaw!"
How long have we been saying it?
This one we started in full this year. Kenny Evans started this
one.
What is it?
An insult that is used to tell a person, section, or band that
they are horrible, garbage, useless, terrible, or not good. It can
be used to describe any aspect of their marching band performance or performances.
When is it used?
It can be said during practice or anytime in and out of uniform..
Who can say it?
This is strictly a trombone thing. Usually the entire section
says it at once.
How is it used?
When some section, band, or person plays something that sucks or is
generally wack. Kenny will count it of and we will all stand up hold
or thumb in the air yelling yeah only to imediately turn them down yelling
Boo. It usually gets a good laugh.
