My Family Poetry Page
This page is dedicated to my family. The poems you read here were written by me, for or about someone in my family. I grew up in Mississippi near a small country town, where neighbors were real neighbors....friends were real friends, families were real families and LOVE was a real feeling in your heart....not just a word you say....I grew up believing that your word is your bond...if someone needed a helping hand....you gave it....and family is important....you should always keep them close, if only in your heart. I have found that many people do not abide by these values and I myself have strayed at times....but
I still believe in my heart this is the way it should be....I think the world would be a much better place if more people felt the same. I hope you enjoy reading my family poetry poems....they mean alot to me.
You've Got To Stand For Something
All Grown Up

For my Son
Johnny Lee Neal
The little boy is gone,
A man now takes his place.
These are tears of happiness,
Falling from my face.
It seems like only yesterday,
Into my life you came.
You brought me so much sunshine,
And very little rain.
Remember, as you go down life's road,
You'll never be alone.
God will be watching you,
From his golden throne.
If he will let me,
When my life on earth is through,
I'll be your guardian angel,
And I'll be watching too.

The Bargie Hill
© 1997 by Dorothy Marie Neal Manley
The house is now abandoned.
The porch is falling down.
Vines have covered up the door.
There's no signs of life around.
Time has took it's toll,
Mom and Dad are gone.
All the children are grown now,
With families of their own.
I remember the smell of fresh baked bread,
And the taste of home fried chicken,
Daddy plowing in the field,
And Mama in the kitchen.
I can see the fire flies
As night is closing in,
Up here on the Bargie Hill,
Where my life first begin.
I'll always come to visit
This place from time to time,
As I recall the good ole days
From the corners of my mind.

The Golden Ring
© by Dorothy Marie Neal Manley
One day while we were playing,
We heard a tingling sound.
A golden ring rolled down the fence,
And fell onto the ground.
My sister ran ahead of me,
So sure she'd claim the prize.
When we got there the ring was gone
We couldn't believe our eyes.
It was then we became so frightened,
Our hearts pounded with fear
We knew that we had seen it.
How could it disappear?
Daddy said it was an omen.
He didn't know what kind,
But he was sure we'd find out,
Somewhere down the line.
Many years have come and gone,
Since we saw the ring that day.
Where it came from and where it went,
Remains a mystery til this day.
A Visit From An Angel
© by Dorothy Marie Neal Manley
For my Mama, Roxie Marie
When Roxie was a little girl,
An angel touched her hand.
The angel came to take her mother,
To the promise Land.
The Angel spoke to Roxie,
And told her not to cry.
You'll be with her again someday,
In her mansion in the sky.
Roxie's mother died that night,
Her loss brought so much pain,
But in her heart Roxie knew,
Someday they'd meet again
She told her bothers and sisters,
Mama won't be here with us anymore,
But I know she will be waiting,
When we walk through Heaven's door
