Amalek

The bible says “God is Love” 1Jo 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Because people think that love is all good and sweet, like cake and ice cream.  However God is not always warm, kudly, friendly, sweet, kind, and fuzzy, like cake and ice cream.  Sometimes he is harsh!  Sometimes God deals harshly with people.

1Sa 15:1-3 ¶ Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.  2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.  3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Amalek were the descendants of Esau, Jacob’s brother

Ge 36:12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz, Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.

Ex. 17:10-14

Then Amalek followed behind killing the weak and tried.

De 25:17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;  18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.  19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.

So God reminded Saul and Israel telling Saul to destroy all.

God took vengeance on Amalek.  He tells us not to take vengeance but rather that it belongs to him.

Isa 63:4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.  5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

God does not want us to take vengeance.  He wants us to wait and trust in him.

Ro 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Sometimes God is harsh toward people making an example, teaching a lesson for us all.

Le 10:1 ¶ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.  2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.  3 ¶ Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

Acts 5:1-10

God does not kill everyone who goes beyond and adds to his worship, he left us an example so we and all through out all ages cans see and understand what he thinks about it.

Neither does God kill all who lie to the Holy Ghost or try to make their faith appear greater than it is.  But he lift us an example as to what he thinks about such actions and such a heart as theirs.

1 Cor. 10:5-12

Those who lived before Christ received physical punishment as the anger of God but now ours is spiritual.

Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

God may deal harshly with us in a spiritual way trying to get us to repent.

Heb. 12:6-9

2Pe 3:9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Sure God is kind, good and loving.  But there is coming a day, when the vengeance of God is coming upon the world!

2 Thes. 1:6-9

All denominational and false preachers who pervert the Gospel are spiritual Amalek.  By their false doctrines, they take away the weak and weary from the kingdom.  They do spiritually what Amalek did physically.   It will not go well with them when Christ returns.  They may out number us, they may be physically stronger, but we have the truth and the victory is ours in Jesus Christ.  (what Ricky said about church of Christ not raising much money)

Have you obeyed the Gospel, without doing so you are not in God’s Kingdom!
