Hey, everyone! CoolB here, ready to give you the full scoop on the NEW Gym Heroes set coming out in August! I've got some exclusive pics of cards and some awesome details about the set (That sometimes I may not even get) but anyway, be sure to check back here when the set hits stores, since i'm sure to get a box and a half of Gym Hero Boosters!
First off, I need to tell you some basic stuff about the new set. Gym Heroes is the biggest Pokémon TCG set to come (yet). At 132 cards, it'll take a while to fully collect. The set includes the first four Gym Leaders, whom are Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, and Erika. I beleive there'll also be a few things like Blaine's Kangaskhan and Sabrina's Venonat in the first Gym set.
The whole Gym line of cards is split into two sets, otherwise it would be one set with around 300 cards in it! Right now the Gym Heroes set is coming out with the first four Gym leaders, follwed by the Gym Challenge set, with the last four. Gym cards are very unique, and it's speculated that this is the best set to come out yet.
Gym cards in particular are different from all else because of their card format. Gym cards, instead of a Pokédex excerpt and resistance/weakness/retreat at the bottom, there's a face of the trainer of the Pokémon, and the Weakness/resistance/retreat are moved to the side. Here is an example of Erika's Dratini.
As you can see from the pic, it is slightly different.
another new aspect is the Pokémon names. Just like in Team Rocket, the Pokémon won't just be wild Pokémon like from base2 or fossil. All of the Pokémon have different names. (I.e) There are cards such as Brock's vulpix and Misty's Psyduck. And those pose as the names of the cards. So it matters, as well. You can't evolve Misty's Psyduck into a Golduck. Nope. And you can't evolve Psyduck into Misty's Golduck. You have to evokve Misty's Psyduck into Misty's Golduck. That's how it works.
Lt. Surge's Pikachu packs quite a punch. But Lt. Surge's Raichu is even sweeter. You'll have to find out what it does on your own...
Gym Heroes also brings in a new type of Trainer card. They're called Stadium cards, and they're not anything like the normal trainer.
The new Stadium cards stay in play until another Stadium card comes into play. So this means that if someone slaps down Pewter City Gym, it stays there unless someone puts down something like Cerulean City Gym. You'll be in a total rut if you don't pack stadium cards in your deck from now on. Say you're fighting a Brock deck, which will usually compose of fighting/ground-type monsters. You don't care because you have things like Articuno and Gengar in your deck, which are resistant to fighting. Well, take a gander at the stadium card above and you'll see why you're in trouble if someone puts that down.
The new Gym Heroes set is very promising. What i don't get though, is that I beleive when you receive a holo card such as Lt. Surge's Fearow, you've got the only one in the set. But that doesn't make sense, does it? Will the holo ratio be changed, or what? This lies a mystery to me and anyone else who knows too much about Gym Heroes already.
There's also some more holo trainer cards, such as Brock, Misty, Erika, etc...
Many people always nag about the newest Pokémon set. They ask: "how many holos? how many basics?" nag, nag, nag. Well, quit asking! Now, for the final count of the set...(drumroll, please)
Gym Heroes will feature...
19 holofoil Cards (five of these are Trainers)
15 Non-holo rare Pokémon
8 Non-foil rare Trainers (and the Blaine's Quiz cards are going to drive your opponents up the wall when they don't know stats for every Pokémon)
6 Basic Energy Cards
AND A BUNCH OF COMMONS AND UNCOMMONS!
I, CoolBird, have recently landed my feathers on four prerelease Gym Heroes Boosters! Here's a few pics of some of the cards that i got! (I'm also most likely getting more, since I got 'em from a tourney, and I know I landed in the top five) anyway, The Misty's Seadra is a promo card, since it has Prerelease stamped on it, and if you really look, you can barely see it. The Rocket's Scyther is in different protectors, since I already stuck it into a nasty grass deck I built and particularly like. Anyway, check out the new area coming soon called "CardNews", that has specific news about tourneys and new card sets! I'm also going to put up some stuff in the Strategy section, so check that out!
These are my three Gym Heroes holo cards.
as you can see from this pic, there are variations of that same cards, such as Lt. Surge's Spearow. That happens with Brock's Mankey, too.
and as you can see from here, Energy cards are also available in Gym Heroes! It's 1 energy per pack, so there's more room for other cards.
Those are all the pix I have up so far. I don't know if I'll post up any more. But aren't you jealous? Anyway, the set's coming out in a few weeks, and these aren't 1st edition, since they weren't giving out 1st editions at the Tournament. Anyway, I'm sure to get more prerelease boosters later this week.
Thank you, thank you all for listening in on the hottest info for the newest set of PokéMon Cards! Please stop by the Strategy Section and come by here again once the set comes out in Mid-August!
