For Just A While

I want to be a little girl again,
cuddle up in Daddy's lap,
be rocked beside a crackling fire
and feel the warmth.
I'd wear pigtails,
go barefooted, get dirty,
let the wind hit my face
in a tree swing all day long.

I could run and skip rope,
play hopscotch,
repeat nursery rhymes
or chase a collie puppy.
Mamma would be right there.
If I got hurt,
She'd kiss the pain away.
I'd dream fantastic dreams
like little girls do,
believe the future to be perfect
and all my dreams come true.
I wish sometimes I could go back
to that simple time,
and for just a while
I'd be carefree once again.
