Let It Snow Again Before I get Too Old

It seldom snows in Mississippi,
but I remember one December
when I was twelve.
We woke to find our yard filled
with fluffy white pillows,
covered with millions of sequins
glittering in the sun.
It was better than Christmas--
a perfect winter scene,
but i was sick and had to watch
my brothers and sisters from the window
as they slid down hills on cardboard sleds
and built a family of snow people.
Mamma finally let me go outside
just long enough to have my picture made.
I wouldn't smile, since I had missed
the biggest snowfall of my life.

Now, when it's very cold,
I cuddle in my rocking chair,
drink hot cocoa by the fireplace
and dream of snow piled high
for miles around.
