Phone Calls

“Hello?”

“Hi, could I please speak with Daniella Peroxide? It’s an emergency.”

“Hold please.”

Sam covered the mouthpiece to the phone. “I can’t believe Dani has her own secretary! She’s so freakin’ rich!”

“Daniella Peroxide here, who may I say is speaking to me?”

“It’s me, Samantha!” Sam cried. “Hi Dani!”

“Sam! Hi! What’s up?”

“Listen, something really freaky happened. Let me paraphrase. This guy named Boris Heckler, who has a low and wheezy voice, called me and Miss and told us that the world is gonna end in a few days because aliens are gonna land and colonize and that we’re the only ones who can stop it. But not we as in me and Missy, we as in the Mulders. So I really, really, really need you to come home.”

“Hmm,” Dani said. “I suppose I do need a vacation. And nobody’s met little Hydrogen yet. Okay, I’ll take the next flight out.”

“YES!” cried Sam. “Thanks so much!”

She slammed the phone down. “Okay, you call Maggie,” she said, handing the phone to Missy.

Missy dialed and waited. A minute later, she heard an aggravated “HELLO?”

“Maggs, it’s me, Missy.”

“Hi Missy.” There was a loud crash in the background. “ROB, STOP IT! I’M ON THE PHONE!”

“Umm, yeah. Listen Maggie, we need your help. We got a call from this guy named Boris and he said…”

“Rob, Laura, cut it out right now!” Maggie yelled. “Sorry, go on.”

“Well, aliens are landing to colonize in a couple of days and he said only the Mulder family…”

“KIDS IF YOU DON’T STOP RIGHT NOW MOMMY’S GOING TO GLUE YOU TO THE FLOOR! I MEAN IT!” Maggie suddenly screamed.

“Wow…Maggie, are you okay?”

“Yeah,” Maggie said. “I should have listened to Mom.”

“Why, what did she say?”

“She said, ‘Maggie, trust me when I tell you that you should never, ever, EVER have babies.’ I didn’t listen.”

“Oh.”

“So you need me to come home and help save the world?”

“Right.”

“I’ll catch the next flight out.”

“Thanks Maggie!”

“Okay, I’ll call Sarah!” Sam grabbed the phone and dialed. “Mulder,” Sarah answered.

“Sarah!” Sam cried.

“Mulder,” Sarah corrected.

“No Sarah, it’s Sam,” Sam said.

“Oh hey. I just talked to Maggie with my mind. I’m already on my way.”

“Sweet,” Sam said.

“Yeah,” Sarah said, hanging up without saying goodbye. Just like her father.

“And now, we wait,” Missy said with a triumphant smile.
