The Poodle from Los Angeles

At 9:45 pm, Sarah went around the hotel room, receiving hugs from everyone in her family.

“Be careful,” Mulder warned.

“Take notes,” Scully offered.

“Don’t forget to keep the safety off,” Maggie instructed.

“Don’t let him trick you into jumping in front of a moving car,” Dani whispered.

“Please don’t shoot him,” Tea begged.

“Trust no one,” Sam reminded her.

“Believe the lie,” Missy said, confusing Sarah.

“Don’t touch me!” Charlie shouted when she tried to hug him.

Off to meet the mysterious toy poodle who said he knew how to stop the aliens. On her long walk, Sarah contemplated the fact that she didn’t find it strange that she was meeting up with a dog at all. She figured it was something that she should probably think about and say, what the hell am I doing? But no. She just walked along like nothing unusual was happening.

She saw him casually leaning up against the side of a brick building, smoking a cigarette. He wore a pair of sunglasses and expensive sneakers. “Excuse me!” she called.

“Sarah Mulder, in the flesh,” the poodle replied smoothly, removing his sunglasses to get a good look at her. “Ooh baby.”

“Hey, I think not,” Sarah retorted. “Now what is it you can tell me about how to stop colonization?”

“The thing is, I don’t have to tell you anything except where they’re landing.”

Sarah’s jaw dropped. “That doesn’t help! You said you’d tell me how to stop them!”

The poodle sighed. “I repeat, I don’t have to tell you anything except where they’re landing.”

Sarah pulled out her gun and slowly pointed it at his head. “I’ll shoot you where you stand you son of a bitch,” she growled.

“Aren’t you listening?” asked the poodle, now rather pissed off. “I’m saying go to the spot where they’re landing and everything will fall into place! God!”

Sarah lowered her gun. “Oh. Where are they landing.”

“Brynnsbeth Asylum,” the poodle answered, lighting another cigarette.

Sarah gasped. “But that’s impossible! Brynnsbeth burned to the ground six years ago!”

“Where the ashes of Brynnsbeth lie, that is where colonization will begin…unless you stop it.”

The poodle took off the sunglasses and sneakers, tossed his cigarette into the street, barked twice, and scampered away.

Sarah stood there, very confused. “What the hell…” she mumbled, and headed back to the hotel room.
