Over the river and through the woods
Over the river and through the woods
And all too often we accept
And so at this Thanksgiving time,
First, thank You for the little things
The unexpected courtesy,
Oh, make us more aware, dear God,
Then, thank You for the "miracles"
And help us to remember
Over the river and through the woods
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.
To have a first-rate play.
Hear the bells ring,
Ting-a-ling-ling!
Hurrah forThanksgiving Day!
Over the river and through the woods
Trot fast, my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound,
For this is Thanksgiving Day.
And straight through the barnyard gate.
We seem to go
Extremely slow --
It is so hard to wait!
Over the river and through the woods
Now Grandmother's cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!
~ A Thanksgiving Prayer ~
Thank You, God, for everything ...
The big things and the small,
For "every good gift comes from God" ...
The Giver of them all.
Without any thanks or praise,
The gifts You send as blessings
Each day in many ways.
We offer up a prayer;
To thank You, God, for giving us
A lot more than our share.
That often come our way;
The things we take for granted
And don't mention when we pray.
The thoughtful, kindly deed,
A hand reached out to help us ..
.
In the time of sudden need.
Of little daily graces,
That come to us with "sweet surprise,"
From never-dreamed-of places.
We are much too blind to see,
And give us new awareness
Of our many gifts from Thee.
That the "key" to "life" and "living,"
Is to make each prayer a "prayer of thanks,"
And every day THANKSGIVING.~ Helen Steiner Rice ~
