Mulder is depressed after the X-Files are shutdown. He says that at one point he could only trust himself, and now he can only trust Scully. He says that he still has his work (at one time the most important thing to him), and he still has Scully. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Mulder and Scully begin a series of let's-solve-this-case-together-by-phone-only. Scully will remember this flukeman case in future episodes. Mulder wants to quit the F.B.I. and says that Scully is the only reason he has to stay.

There is a weird thing going on that has people inciting to kill others. The big question is, will Mulder's cell phone get him to act out any homicidal impulses? No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Krycek lovers, look out--here's his first episode. It's so obvious Mulder prefers Scully as a partner that I almost feel bad for Krycek. But then we find out that he's bad, and we want Scully to get with him instead. Just kidding.

Mulder wants to believe Duane Barry is an alien abductee. There is tense confrontation between him and Scully because she thinks Barry is just mentally disturbed. Still, she is very concerned because Barry has kidnapped Mulder. Ending a very bad day, she herself gets kidnapped by Barry.

Mulder is in angst hell as he searches for Scully. He depresses me when he tells Skinner he doesn't know whether she's alive or not. He wants to kill Barry in one of the best confrontation scenes in the show--it deserves a shrine of its own. If we didn't know what Scully meant to Mulder before, we certainly do now. Scully's mother lets Mulder keep Scully's cross necklace. It's a show of her confidence in him, and I think, an acknowledgement of Mulder's deep connection to Scully. Scully's mom loves Mulder because he loves Scully. So so beautiful and sad.

Mulder, still depressed because he still does not have Scully by his side, gets attracted to a woman who has connections with vampires. They sleep together (we know he just wants human comfort to console himself for Scully not being there) but things don't work out (she dies). Mulder is wearing Scully's cross the whole time, and contemplates it deeply at the end. He doesn't forget that he still has not lost everything. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully mysteriously reappears and Mulder goes crazy trying to learn the truth about what happened to her. Mulder has the opportunity to discover the answers to the questions that he's had for so long, but he gives up this chance in order to be with Scully in the hospital as she is dying. He knows it is his last opportunity, because Scully has said in her will (that Mulder witnessed!) that she does not want to live off a machine and everyone but Mulder wants to pull the plug. He tenderly holds her hand. Scully wakes up and makes Mulder deliriously happy--so much that he brings her a tape on football (we learn how Mulder says "I love you" is not how other people say it) and Scully says the most touching words the show has ever had her say (this includes Season Six) when she tells Mulder, "I had the strength of your beliefs."
(Go to Shippy Memorable Quotes for "One Breath.")
Mulder is concerned about Scully working so soon after her recent recovery, but she insists on going with him. When Mulder suspects that Scully is in danger, he goes to her, even though there is a man with a gun pointing at him telling him that he better not go. Mulder discovers that Scully has saved herself and is okay, and I want to look away in embarrassment, he gives her such an intimate look of love. (Go to Shippy Memorable Quotes for "Firewalker.")
Mulder cleans barbecue sauce from Scully's mouth! That's all you need to know.

Very interesting moment when a senior citizen makes a pass at Scully and apologizes for stepping on Mulder's toes. Mulder says, "it's all right" not "you're not stepping on any toes"!
No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Mulder and Scully defend their actions together to a detective. They may argue with each other but no one else is allowed the same privilege. A woman named B.J. almost cuts Mulder's throat, and when her lover comforts her, Scully comforts Mulder. Nice parallel there. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully tells her therapist that she trusts Mulder with her life (duh). Scully almost becomes a victim of a fetishist. She wants Mulder to think that she is strong, she can handle it, she is fine, but he knows her better. He gently tips her head up to look in her eyes, and she can't bear the honesty and breaks down in his arms. He just holds her, though he is obviously at a loss as to what to do. But he is doing just the right thing.
(Go to Shippy Memorable Quotes for "Irresistible.")
Mulder and Scully have to contend with the devil. Mulder, in a rush to go help Scully, ties up a suspect in a basement. That suspect is then eaten by a huge snake. Oh, well, the point is Scully's okay.
No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully and Mulder treat a young boy to some fries--they act rather parental. Mulder knows right away when something is on Scully's mind and is concerned. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Mulder and Scully have a tiff but of course make up. Samantha reappears. Scully is on the phone with Mulder when another Mulder shows up. Uh-oh. Trouble, or fantasy coming true?

Scully is frantic as she searches for Mulder, who has galavanted off to the Arctic region. Mulder trades his sister for Scully. Scully thinks Mulder is going to die, and when he wakes up, nothing on earth is as bright as Scully's smile.

Frohike has been working out to impress Scully but Mulder keeps this information to himself. He and Scully are on a case involving invisible animals and a zoo. Mulder thinks that these animals are being abducted for alien testing purposes. Three guesses what Scully thinks of his theory.

Mulder and Scully are on board a ship that mysteriously ages people at a much faster rate than normal. They argue over who will drink the last of the water keeping them alive--Scully wants Mulder to drink it and Mulder wants Scully to drink it. Scully keeps a journal of everything that has happened and it is so sad when she reports that she can do nothing more for Mulder and then blacks out herself. When she wakes up from this experience her first response is Mulder. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully eats a cricket and I think Mulder is secretly turned on by this. We get asked if we would want to live in a world where everyone looks like Mulder--and I think both Scully and I agree, yes.
No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully and Mulder both have encounters with the devil. It is pretty scary. Many people die, and a chicken as well. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Scully doesn't tell Mulder that she may have contracted a fatal disease. If he knew he'd freak out and not be able to chase down the bad guys that he needs to catch. Scully knows this and braves her terror alone.
No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
My favorite Mulder and Scully exchange (among many good ones): Scully says in reaction to Mulder's spontaneous combustion theory, "Let's just forget for the moment that there's no scientific theory to support it." Mulder's comeback? "Okay." We also learn that Scully's been blabbing about Mulder to anyone who will listen. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Mulder saves Scully from being eaten in a stew. Tender moment when he brushes her hair out of her face. No shippy .wavs from this episode are available at this time.
Mulder and Scully angst out with each other as Mulder goes off the deep end searching for the truth. Scully puts him to bed anyway. It's a shame he's so exhausted.
