One thing is certain about duck hunting, expect the worst weather. It can get cold in Mississippi. You often see wind chill below zero or at least in the teens. Always have chest waders. Even if you expect to hunt in a boat, you never know what you will encounter. You may have to wade and then get in a boat. Hip waders will not suffice. You will get wet in hip waders. A lot of people have different opinions about gun calibers and shells. I too have my opinion, and it is just that. An opinion based on actual experience. I suggest a 12gauge that can shoot both 3inch and 3 1/2inch shells. 3inch shells are plenty big enough for timber hunting. Timber brings the ducks really close(why I love timber so)and 3 1/2inch shells will sometimes be to much. I probably don't need to say this, but have good camo. If you need gear just look at the links below or try the search engine. Good Luck!!
