My Home Town

I am from a beautiful place -
the oldest permanent settlement
on the Mississippi River
(we predate New Orleans by two years!)
- Natchez.
We are a mixture of history and technology
- where the old and the new blend to create
a truly unique atmosphere.

One of the primary industries here is tourism.
We have over 500 antebellum structures in our town,
with about 100 being on tour at various times
during the year. In the Spring and the Fall
there are Pilgrimages which allow visitors
to see how people lived in the 19th century here.
We also have Mardi Gras in February,
an Opera Festival in May,
a "Floozy Contest" in June,
the Great River Roads Balloon Race in October,
and Victorian Christmas in December.
This is all in addition to the usual events
that most towns have.

Natchez is also a popular site for movie makers.
Though most folks don't realize it, many of you
have seen our town throughout the years.
Among those movies filmed here are:
"Raintree County", "Showboat",
"Horse Soldiers", "Freedom Road",
"The North and the South", and "Huck Finn".
Of course, having hundreds of antebellum costumes
and buildings ready for shooting at a
moment's notice is a big help!
