Jesus Tempted
Jesus was led by the Spirit from the baptismal waters of the Jordan into the wilderness, where He fasted forty days and was then tempted by the Devil.  That of the flesh, the lower nature, and the appetite, its strongest passion, in its extremity of hunger, was the first temptation.  The mind in its strongest passion, ambition, in its extreme limit to rule the world, was the second.  The spirit in its strongest passion, pride, in its ultimate extreme, to demonstrate divine power, was the third.  In all three elements of His nature Jesus was thus tried to the extreme limit and triumphantly resisted every temptation.
