Title: "Sunday Mornings" Rating: G, maybe PG Classification: MSR Spoilers: Very slight ones for Squeeze/Tooms and Small Potatoes. Memento Mori. Timeline: This takes place before Scully's cancer was cured, probably right after Demons. Summary: Scully and Mulder's first real day as a couple is spent with Mulder's mom. "Sunday Mornings" Sunday Mornings...I used to hate Sunday mornings. I would wake up alone, and sometimes I would go to church with my mother, sometimes not. When I didn't I would always feel guilty for the rest of the day. Sundays would be a day of doing nothing, and not accomplishing anything. I hate that. At least when I was on a case I was doing something, even if it was chasing liver eating mutants or saving Mulder's ass. I would always sit around, either watching t.v. or reading on Sundays, not feeling like cleaning or anything like that. Around lunchtime I would usually meet with my mom, and she would always bother me about inviting Mulder. I'm sure he had better things to do then listen to the gossip about all my family members. That was before, when I hated Sundays. But now, now I love Sundays... "Hey Scully, wake up." I opened my eyes slowly, waiting for them to come into focus. When they did, I was met with a wonderful sight. "Hi sleepyhead." Mulder was grinning at me. I sat up and smiled, raking my fingers through my unruly mass of hair. It had been a wonderful night. We finally told each other how we felt, and found that we both felt the same..we're in love. Really, nothing happened last night because after we were done talking, I was so tired that we ended up just curling up in my bed and going to sleep. I pulled the covers back up around me and squeezed his hand. "Good morning Mulder." He leaned over and touched his lips to mine, and I closed my eyes again, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. When he moved away, I wrapped my arms around him and kissed the back of his neck. "Mmm, stay in bed with me, Please?" I looked up with a cat-like smile and raised my eyebrows. However, he just sighed. "Sorry Scully. I would love to stay in bed with you all day, but I have to go somewhere today." He looked, and gave me this little look, that said he was really sorry. "Mulder, where could you possibly have to go on a Sunday?" I'd never know him as a religious person, and if he was leaving me, it had to be important. "Uh, I promised my mother that I'd visit her around lunchtime today...." He shrugged his shoulder, then whispered in my ear. "Just wait for tonight...it's going to be fun." That sent shivers down my spine and he grinned, seeing my reaction. Suddenly, I had an idea. "Hey, Mulder? How about I come with you...I've never really met your mother under normal circumstances.." He thought for a moment and started to shake his head when I interrupted. "Mulder, Please? I really want to go with you." Finally he just smiled at me and kissed my cheek. "You are something else, Scully. Sure, we'll both go. I just want to warn you though. Me and her aren't exactly best friends, we're working on becoming closer, we're really trying, but I don't know how comfortable you'll be..." I just shook my head and told him I didn't care. After that we both got out of bed. I took the shower first, while he fixed breakfast. Around 11:00 we finally got out onthe road. I've always enjoyed car rides with Mulder. Even if we have nothing to say, the silence is always comfortable. This car ride was no exception. We talked about little things, our first cars, college experiences, things that would seem little to anyone else. But to us they were significant, a sign that we were finally, truly a "couple". People who shared their life with each other, all the little details. Anyways, by the time we got to Mrs. Mulder's house, I felt like I knew a different side of Mulder, and I hoped that he felt the same way about me. I had even told him about my prom night..an interesting story, actually. We pulled up to Mulder's mother's house and he looked at me. "Scully, uh, thanks for coming." I was surprised at this, because at first he'd seemed against it. "Oh Mulder, don't worry about it, I'm glad I could come." I took his hand and quickly squeezed it, feeling the electricity pass between us. We got out of the car and he put his arm around me, something that I was still getting used to. I leaned into him, and he smiled. I could tell that Mrs. Mulder was surprised when she opened the door. "Oh, Hello Fox. You didn't tell me you were bringing anyone." She was looking at me, trying to figure out why I was there. We came inside and Mulder took my hand. "Mom, this is Dana Scully, I know you've met her before." I shook her hand and smiled slightly. She was trying to figure out what to say. "Yes, I remember. Do you still work together?" We both nodded. We stood there for a moment, as an uncomfortable silence settled. Then, Mrs. Mulder turned around and led us into the dining room. "Well, come on in the dining room and we can eat lunch." After we sat down, she brought in some sandwiches, and got us all some iced tea. I thanked her and started eating. She and Fox spoke to each other a little about the family, and when they were done I looked up at her. I could feel butterflies in my stomach, I wasn't sure how she felt about me. "Mrs. Mulder, I hope you don't mind me coming. I didn't mean to impose, but I wanted to meet you under more normal circumstances then before." She looked at me, and took a sip of her drink. "Uh, Miss Scully, I don't mind." She looked down at her plate and was trying to think of something to talk about. "Fox had told me of your, illness..how, how are you doing?" Oh boy, that was a really unexpected question. When she sensed my hesitation to answer, she began to apologize. "I'm sorry if I upset you, I didn't mean to be rude." Mulder looked at me and then at his mother, deciding to not say anything. He touched my arm in a gesture of support. "Oh, you didn't upset me Mrs. Mulder, It was just a really unexpected question, I guess." I smiled softly at her, and to my surprise she smiled back. "Um, my cancer's under control, and I'm not having any problems right now.." I broke off and looked away. Mrs. Mulder looked at Fox. "If you two don't mind telling me, I was wondering if you were..uh, a couple, I guess." Mulder and I looked at each other and smiled. He answered her. "I guess you could say we are, mom. We're working on it..." He shrugged his shoulders and Mrs. Mulder smiled again. "Fox, I'm happy for you, Really." Mulder looked up, rather surprised. "Thanks Mom." He smiled at his mother, and I could feel the atmosphere of the room change. For the next 45 minutes we talked, and I think we all enjoyed it. I'd never seen Mulder's mom this open, and she really wasn't as cold as I thought she was. Around four, Mulder and I left. As soon as we got in the car, Mulder grabbed my hand and kissed it. "Thank you so, so much Scully. I've never seen my mom quite like that... she likes you, and that makes a lot of things less difficult." He trailed off and I just shook my head. "Mulder, it's no big deal. I enjoyed it, actually." I slipped into the seat and we drove off. I know I was a little uncertain of what to do next, and I'm sure Mulder was too, so when we got to my apartment, we just kind of stood there for a moment. Finally, I knew I had to do something, because he sure wouldn't. "Mulder, if you don't get over here and kiss me in two seconds, I just may have to shoot you." That erased all doubts from his head, you could see it in his eyes. Needless to say he did come over and kiss me, and what a kiss that was. We spent the rest of the night exploring each other, and what we had together. That was five years ago. Now, I still wake up and see Mulder, but a few things have changed. I have a ring on my finger, and a little girl is sleeping in a crib by the bed. I love my life, our life, and it all started on a wonderful Sunday. As I said before....I used to hate Sundays, but now there's no reason to. **THE END**
