Chapter1
“Hey Jules! What’s up?” Julie’s best friend Stacey asked.
“Oh nothing,” Julie muttered, “Jason and I had a fight, but knowing him, he’ll pretend that nothing happened.”
“Some guys just don’t express their feelings well,” Stacey said. Julie shrugged her shoulders, as a pair of hands covered her eyes.
“Hi Jason,” Julie replied.
“Hi babe,” Jason answered, giving her a kiss on the cheek,” Why so glum? Don’t want to see me?”
“I’m not. Of course I do,” She answered. Jason put his arms around her waist, then Julie pulled his arms away.
“How come we never talk after we have a fight?” She asked. Jason looked angry, “Because I don’t wanna get into it.”
“Well I do,” Julie said.
“I like it better not talking,” Jason answered.
“Me too! Not talking AT ALL!” She yelled, walking away. Julie quickly paced down the hall, turned the corner and bumped into her friends Matt and Andrew.
“What’s wrong?” They asked.
“Oh hi guys. Nothing, I’ve got to go,” She said, trying to smile, walking away, as Stacey walked up to Matt and Andrew. Matt pointed at Julie walking away and put his hands us shrugging.
“She and Jason are fighting a lot, it doesn’t look good,” She explained.
“That stinks,” Andrew said.
“She’s too good for him,” Matt said, “He’s being a jerk.”
“Well when I get home I’ll call her,” Stacey explained.
“Let’s hope that everything turns out good,” Andrew said.
“Yeah, let’s hope,” Matt said. Stacey said goodbye and left. That night, at home, she dialed Julie’s phone number.
“Hello?” A voice said.
“Is Julie there please?” Stacey said.
“Hi Stacey. Um, Julie’s upstairs talking to Jason, she said she didn’t want to be disturbed, but I’ll tell her you called,” Julie’s mom explained.
“Thanks Mrs. Connor, bye,” Stacey finished, hanging up the phone.
“They’re talking, maybe that’s a good sign?” Stacey thought.
(1 Hour Later)
“Hello?” Stacey said.
“Hi Stacey, I need to talk to someone,” Julie said sounding like she had been crying.
“Julie, I’m coming over, hold on,” Stacey said, hanging up the phone. When Stacey got to Julie’s house, Julie answered the door. Stacey gave her a hug because she could tell she was upset.
“Jason and I broke up,” She said, “We screamed and yelled and cried and yelled and he dumped me.”
“I’m so sorry. It’s his loss. You’re a great person and too good for him,” Stacey consoled her.
“I don’t think I’m ever going to find someone again,” Julie said, sadly.
Chapter 2 (The Next Day)
“Hi Jules, how are you doing?” Stacey asked, walking up to her at her locker.
“I’m hanging in there,” She answered, softly.
“Hi Julie. You seen Jason?” Andrew said when he walked up, followed by Matt, and Matt nudged him.
Julie sighed and looked down, upset, “We broke up.” “I’m so sorry Julie, I didn’t know,” Andrew said.
“Julie, I’m sorry. Are you ok?” Matt asked.
“I hope I will be,” She answered.
“You’ll be ok. There’s tons of guys who’d love to go out with you,” Stacey said, putting her arm on Julie’s shoulder, “How about you, me, Becky and Donna have a girls night out tonight? We’ll cheer you up. Ok?”
Julie nodded, “Ok,” She smiled, as her and Jason’s friend Will walked up.
“Jules, I’m really sorry about what happened with you and Jason. For what it’s worth, I think Jason was being a jerk and he’s crazy for what he’s done. It’s his loss,” Will explained.
“Thanks Will, you’re a good friend,” Julie replied.
“It’s his fault Julie. You’re a nice person and if he can’t see that then he’s got problems,” Matt explained.
“By tomorrow, you’ll be happier than ever, because tonight you’re gonna have a great time!” Stacey exclaimed, pulling Julie’s arm, walking towards the cafeteria, with the others.
They were all joking around and having fun but Julie wasn’t smiling. “Hey Jules!” Matt said, sticking out his tongue to the side, widening his eyes, making funny faces, causing Julie to break out into laughter.
They were all making funny faces, even Julie, until Julie frowned as Jason and his jerky bud Steve walked in. Steve was pointing, making a mean face and moving his hands like they were talking, trying to impersonate Julie yelling. Jason was smiling, but slapped him and pushed him around.
Julie dropped her fork, stood up and walked out of the cafeteria. The others followed.
“It’s ok Julie, he’s just being a jerk,” Andrew said.
“Hey, cheer up! Tonight’s gonna be great and after you’ll be saying Jason who?” Stacey said.
“Ok, but there’s one thing that’ll make me feel better right now,” She answered, walking back into the cafeteria, up to Jason and Steve.
“What do you want? No wait. To yell at me? Isn’t that what you do best?” Jason laughed out.
“No, nothing,” She said, pausing, “Just this!” She exclaimed, slapping him across the face as hard as she could.
Her friends laughed and yelled, “Go Jules!” Julie just smiled, as she walked out, “I’ll meet you tonight, Stace!”
“I think our Julie is back, just not all of her,” Will said.
Chapter 3 (That Night)
When all the girls arrived at the night club, they immediately went to a booth.
“Ooh, Jules, there’s someone guys here,” Donna gushed.
“I’m not ready. I thought Jason was going to be special to me, but he wasn’t. I’m not going to find the right guy here. I don’t think I ever will,” Julie said.
“Maybe not here, but there’s lots of guys that would love you,” Becky said.
They got up and partied on the dance floor. Julie was happy, but not completely herself yet. They ordered dessert.
“Yum, I just love chocolate!” Julie said, digging into her chocolate cake, that had a Hershey’s kiss on the top.
“Me too,” Stacey said, “And I’m glad to see you happy again.” Later on when the girls were sitting having a drink, a gorgeous guy came up and asked Julie to dance.
“Um, ok, sure,” She replied. They danced and Julie looked even happier. When the song ended the guy asked, “Maybe I can call you sometime and we can go out?” He suggested.
“Um, I loved the dance, but no thanks. I don’t think I’m ready to get into anything,” She responded.
“Ok,” He replied, disappointed, and walked away.
“Are you crazy?” Becky asked, “Look at him! He’s hot! He’d treat you like a princess! You’d be such a cute couple!”
“I dunno. I’m just not ready,” She answered. Becky just nodded and said, “Ok.”
“Maybe we should get going. There’s a huge test in 2 days,” Stacey said.
“Oh my gosh! I forgot! Stace, come over after school and we can study together,” Julie said.
“Sure,” Stacey answered.
They got into their car and drove home.
“I hope tonight cheered you up,” Stacey said to Julie
“Yeah, thanks. I feel better, I just don’t know if there’s anyone out there for me,” She replied.
“There is. Trust me,” answered Stacey.
‘I hope so,’ Julie thought.
Chapter 4 (The Next Afternoon After School)
“We have to do some big time studying!” Julie said, walking up the front porch.
Julie slipped her shoes off and ran upstairs while Stacey went through her bag. Julie opened the door and let out a small scream.
“OH MY GOD!” She yelled, “Stacey, you have to see this!” Stacey came upstairs, beside Julie. On Julie’s bed and all over the floor there were Hershey kisses, and a red card on her pillow.
“There has to be at least 500 kisses here!” Stacey exclaimed. Julie opened the card. It read:
“These are only chocolate kisses, one day I hope to give you real kisses.”
“That’s so sweet!” Stacey said, when she read it. Julie collected them all and put them in a bag with the card.
“A secret admirer? It can’t be. Maybe it’s Jason playing a trick or apologizing?” Julie wondered.
“It could be a lot of people. If it’s Jason, what would you do?” Stacey asked.
“I’d keep the chocolate, and pretend it was from a famous person,” She said laughing, “I wouldn’t take him back, I know that for sure,” She answered, “Oh well, we’d better study, or we’re never gonna pass.”
They opened heir books and studied for 2 hours in silence and Stacey broke the silence by saying, “The person has to have been at the club last night! You said you loved chocolate and you ate a Hershey’s kiss! Maybe it’s the guy you danced with?”
“He must have been there, but not that guy because he doesn’t know where I love,” She answered.
“Maybe he followed us home,” Stacey suggested.
“No, I saw him leave an hour before us,” Julie answered.
“Oh, ok,” Stacey said, going back to studying. They studied for hours until it was late night.
“Oh gosh, I’d better get home! See ya tomorrow Ms. Secret Admirer!” Stacey exclaimed.
“Ha ha, funny! Bye!” She said back.
Julie went to the bag of chocolates and ate one, then she took the card and read it over and over. The words were typed in a special writing so it was impossible to tell who wrote it.
‘Who could this be?’ She wondered, ‘Will? He’s always so nice to me. If it’s not Will then I don’t know who it could be. Will’s nice. He’d be a good person for it to be. I always thought of us as just friend. Could he really be my secret admirer?’ She continued to think.
Julie lay down on her bed staring at the card until she fell asleep thinking of people who could possibly be her secret admirer.
Chapter 5 (The Next Day After The Big Test)
“It’s a good thing we studied to hard!” Stacey said, coming out of the class room and Julie nodded, staring at Will, who was behind them, along with Andrew and Donna and Becky.
“Hey, where’s Matt?” Donna asked.
“He finished early. The teacher let him and a couple of others go early,” Andrew explained.
“Why so quiet?” Becky asked Julie.
“She didn’t tell you?” Stacey said surprised, “She got home yesterday and all over her bed and floor were Hershey kisses. Hundreds of them, and a card from a secret admirer.”
“Oohhh. A secret admirer Jules? Any idea who it is?” Will asked.
“I thought I did, now I don’t,” She answered, remembering that Will described to her last week about the girl he likes.
“It’s probably just Steve or Jason playing a joke,” She continued.
“No, I don’t think so. They both had detention yesterday,” Becky informed her.
“I dunno who then,” Julie said, heading towards her locker, “Shoot, my math teacher wanted my assignment. I left it in my car. I’ll be back,” She said, heading out the front of the school.
As Julie was walking up she saw a rose on the windshield of her car with a note attached to it. She grabbed her assignment and the rose and went back to her friends.
“Look guys! “She announced.
“What does the note say?” Andrew asked. Julie read it aloud:
“I gave you these gifts because they’re like you. The chocolates are sweet and the rose and beautiful, almost as much as you.”
Julie smiled, “Who could it be?”
“Whoever it is loves you,” Stacey said.
“And I’m starting to love them,” Julie replied. Matt walked up behind them, “Hey, how did you guys do?”
“Fine, we think. Where were you? I thought you went home?” Becky asked, curiously.
“Yeah, I went home because I forgot an assignment, and I just took it back,” He said.
“You missed the excitement. Julie got gift #2 from a secret admirer,” Donna giggled.
“A secret admirer?” He said, smiling, nudging Julie.
“This is driving me crazy. Who could it be?” She exclaimed.
“Ah, you know, more people end up meeting the stranger. I guess he’s making you wait,” Matt said, smiling.
Julie was thinking. Two weeks ago she had to pick out flowers for her aunts wedding and she talked about how much she loved roses.
‘This person must have been watching me then, and the other night,’ She thought.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Donna asked.
“Well the person must have been watching me when I said I love chocolate and I love roses,” She confessed.
“Maybe,” Replied Donna.
“I’m surprised the whole locked note hasn’t happened yet,” Becky stated.
“Me neither,” Julie said, “Whoever this is must be a sweetie. I just want to know why they like me. I’m just your average person,” She continued, quietly talking to Becky.
“Nah, he thinks your special and you are. If you find him, hang on to him,” Becky said, giving her opinion.
“Maybe, just maybe I will. I don’t know who it is. I can’t make my decision yet!” Julie said.
Chapter 6 (The Next Morning)
Julie walked up to her locker. She opened it and a big teddy bear holding a note was inside. Julie closed the locked, and raced down the hall to find Stacey, Donna, and Becky. “It happened again! Another gift, another note. Come,” She said. Julie opened her locked again and pulled out the big teddy bear. She handed it to Donna and read the note.
“You’re not just an average girl. You’re special to me. I’ve been afraid to show you who I am, and how I feel in the past, but soon I will express them.”
“Past!?” Stacey exclaimed, turning around and quickly walking over to Jason at his locker.
“What’s the point of this?
“Point of what?” He asked.
“The gifts and the notes!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You mean, you’re not Julie’s secret admirer?”
“Secret admirer?”
“Everything. The notes sound like you.”
“What? I mean I feel really bad about what happened between us, but,” He started.
“Ah-ha! It is you!” She yelled.
“No, it’s not. I swear. I wouldn’t do that. She’d think it was a joke,” He said.
“Or is it?”
“No, of course not. Honest. I swear it’s not me,” He explained.
“Ok, look, I’m sorry. The notes just sound like you,” She apologized.
“It ain’t me. I wouldn’t do that. I mean I still care for her. I’m not a monster,” He replied.
“I know. If you see anybody writing noted or buying romantic stuff let me know,” She asked.
“Ok, sure,” He agreed. Stacey walked back to the others.
“It’s definitely not Jason,” She announced.
“Good,” Julie said.
“He said he feels bad about what happened and that he still cares for you and would never do that,” She answered.
“Ok, but I’m never gonna find out who this is,” Julie said.
“Jason’s gonna keep and eye out for guys writing notes and buying gifts,” Stacey explained.
“That’s nice of him,” Julie said, smiling.
“Well so far, your admirer thinks you’re sweet, beautiful and special,” Donna listed.
“He must be a prince himself,” She continued.
“He must be watching you like said. He said, “You’re not an average girl, and you said that to me yesterday,” Becky stated.
“You’re right. I wonder how long this person’s liked me?” Julie wondered.
“He probably like you forever because he said he’s been afraid to tell you, one because he’s shy and two he must have known that you were going out with Jason,” Donna explained.
“Whoever it is, I just want to know, before I go crazy,” Julie said.
Chapter 7 (That Evening)
(Ding Dong)
Julie opened her front door.
On the step was a box of candied with another note attached. Julie stepped out and looked around. There was nobody in sight. The note read:
“Meet me tomorrow night, 7pm in the park. I’ll reveal my identity and my feelings so you won’t wonder anymore.”
“Yes!” Julie exclaimed, “I’ll finally find out who this is!”
(The Next Day At School)
“The big date tonight!” Juliw exclaimed, as she walked up to Stacey, Becky, Donna, Matt, Andrew and Will.
“What date?” Andrew asked.
“Here look!” She replied.
They all read the note. “This is it! You’ll find out who it is!” Stacey exclaimed, happy for Julie.
“I can’t wait!” Julie said.
“Are you hoping for it to be a certain person?” Matt asked. Julie smiled at him, “Maybe.”
“Really?” He asked. Julie just nodded.
“Come on Julie, lets go get everything ready for tonight,” Donna said, grabbing her arms and pulling her away out the door quickly.
When the 4 girls got to Julie’s house they raided the closet. “Here, this will look great!” Becky said, handing her a short, royal blue, silk dress.
Julie changed into the dress. “I’m kinda nervous. You never know who it could be,” She said.
“Who do you want it to be?” Stacey asked.
“Hmmm…let’s just say someone we know,” She answered with a grin.
“Let me do your make up. I wanna be a great make up artist, I need lots of practice.
Donna did Julie make up and Becky did Julie nails. With her eyes closed Julie said, “Don’t you think this is a bit much?”
“Finished,” They said, as Julie opened her eyes.
She looked great. She just smiled. “And you were saying?” Donna laughed.
Stacey took some vanilla perfume and sprayed Julie with it all over. “Great, now I’ll smell like an ice cream cone,” Julie joked.
“Are you ready to go?” They asked her.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” She answered.
Chapter 8 (The Admirer)
Julie walked up to the park. It wasn’t dark yet but it was getting dark, and a few stars were out. She could hear the sound of music coming from behind the trees. She walked to the sound. ‘I’ll Never Break Your Heart’ by the Backstreet Boys was playing. Julie sat down on a blanket that was there, until she heard rustling in the bushes.
She stood right up. There stood a guy with a bouquet of hand-picket daisies covering his face. He lowered them. Julie smiled and there stood Matt.
“Matt? It’s you?” She asked. He nodded and handed the daisies and explained, “I didn’t think I’d buy you flowers, but I’d hand-pick them for you.”
“Oh my gosh,” Julie said beaming.
“Jules, I’ve loved you since we first met. I was there when you said you loved roses. I was there at the club when you said you love chocolate, and I was in front of you when you said you were an average girl. But you’re not. You’re special. You said you hoped it was someone and no matter who it was, I still love you,” Matt explained heartfelt.
“You! I hoped it was you!” Julie said as a tear rolled down her cheek, “You’ve been so sweet. You’ve always been a good friend, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be with you! I love you,” She replied throwing her arms around his neck.
He held her tight. They stood there hugging until they pulled apart. “You’ve done so much for me, I don’t know what I could ever do to let you know how happy it made me, but I can tell you that I love you too,” She answered as she pulled him in for a kiss.
“This isn’t a chocolate kiss, this is the real thing,” She whispered in his ear, referring to his first note.
They kissed and they clicked automatically and they knew they were soul mates.
