“Hey Lynds, you got a letter,” Dan stated, walking in with bags of fan mail.
“Me?” Lyndsey asked, “Wow. Can you leave it on the kitchen counter for me?” She asked, because she was in the middle of making dinner for everyone.
“Sure,” Replied Dan, and he smiled as he placed it down on the counter.
“Thanks,” Lyndsey said, as Jacob came up behind her, putting his arms around her waist, kissing her on the cheek.
“You’re welcome,” Joked Jacob.
“Ha, ha, look on the counter. I got a letter, oohhh,” Lyndsey said sarcastically, “That sure beats the zillions that you get everyday,” She laughed.
“I’d better get through some of it,” Jacob sighed, going into the living room to read the fan mail with the other guys.
“This girl has been a fan since she heard our song on the radio the day it came out,” Erik said, holding a letter, “And she loves Erik with hugs and kisses,” He laughed, as he put an autographed picture of the group in an envelope to send to her.
“This one is from a mom writing for her seven year old daughter. She’s from my hometown, and she says that she’s a big Ashley fan and that she wishes her daughter could see the outside of my house someday because that would make her really happy,” Ashley explained, reading aloud.
“Awe, do you recognize the name?” Trevor asked.
“No, but since I’m flying home tomorrow for a couple of our days off, I’m gonna drive over to her house for a surprise visit,” Ashley answered sweetly, putting the letter in his pocket.
“DAMN!” A loud screech came from the kitchen. They all went into the kitchen to see what had happened. Smoke was everywhere and Lyndsey was coughing.
“I hope you like your chicken really over done,” Lyndsey kidded, frowning.
“I think we should go for takeout,” Jacob said as he was trying to hold back his laughter.
“Hey, I tried. I’m just a bad cook,” Lyndsey said.
“That’s ok. Let’s get in the van and go get some pizza,” Ashley said as the others followed him. Lyndsey cleaned off her hands, before taking Jacob’s hand and grabbing her keys.
“Aren’t you gonna read your letter?” Asked Jacob, before they left.
“Nah, I’ll read it later,” She decided, as they headed out.
That night, Jacob lay in bed. Just as he was about to fall asleep he heard a glass shatter. He jumped out of bed and walked into the kitchen to find Lyndsey standing there trembling. “What’s wrong?” He asked, but she wouldn’t answer. He took a piece of paper, which was the letter, from her hands.
Jacob wrapped his arms around her as she shook and cried softly. He slowly helped her back to his room where he held her all night. “A what?!” Trevor asked surprised and angry, the next morning.
“A stalker,” Jacob announced, “The person has been watching everything she does. Apparently they’re a fan of me and does not want her going near me. They wrote that if she don’t leave me and get as far away from me as possible, that she’ll pay.”
“Oh my God,” Erik said in complete shock.
“Look man, I speak for all of us. We’ll do whatever we can to help,” Said Ashley as he had his stuff ready to go back home for three days.
“Yeah, you can count on us,” Dan said.
“Thanks guys,” He said, before Ashley said goodbye to everyone and left. Lyndsey stayed in the house for three days until Ashley came back. She had been really quiet since she had read the letter.
“It was awesome,” Ashley said, when asked about his trip, “The little girl, Sara, was so surprised. She loved it. I think I autographed everything she owned,” He laughed, “So how’s Lyndsey?”
Jacob just pointed to the living room where she was curled up on the couch watching tv, “She hasn’t left the house.”
Lyndsey then got up and came in to say hi to Ashley, “How was your trip?” She asked putting her arms around Jacob.
“I had so much fun,” He said.
“Great,” Lyndsey smiled, “Let’s do something. Let’s go see a movie,” She suggested, as the others agreed. Jacobs followed her when she went to get her jacket.
“Are you sure?” He asked, concerned.
“Yeah. I’ve been thinking. I can’t let this person run my life,” She stated.
“True,” He replied, “I just don’t want you to worry. This person is probably lying. There’s no way she could be watching you.”
“You’re right. They couldn’t be,” She gave him a peck on the lips, “Let’s go.”
When they got back from the movies, Lyndsey went to change. Jacob heard a scream and came racing into her room, followed by the others. Jacob turned Lyndsey away. On her mirror in red lipstick it said: ‘STAY AWAY FROM JACOB OR ELSE!!!”
Trevor hugged a sobbing Lyndsey and took her out of the room. Jacob took a picture, “Proof, in case we need it,” He frowned, and then began scrubbing the lipstick off.
“This is probably just a cruel joke,” Ashley said.
“Let’s hope it’s just a joke,” Erik said seriously.
“It is,” Dan said, trying to re-assure them. Jacob went into the den and gave Lyndsey a big hug and held her and stroked her hair.
“I’m not gonna stay away from you,” She said, looking him in the eyes, “I will die before I stay away from you.”
Jacob gave her a soft kiss, “I love you. I won’t let anything happen to you. We all think it’s a cruel joke. Don’t worry,” He replied.
“Ok,” She said, half smiling.
The next morning Lyndsey awoke to find a dead rose on her night table with a note that read, ‘So you’ll die before you leave Jacob? That can be arranged.’ Upset, Lyndsey ran to her open her door, and bumped into Ashley.
“Lyndsey? What’s wrong?” He asked, then Lyndsey threw her arms around him, in a hug.
“You’re shaking,” He stated the obvious, “Jacob!” He called out, and went in Lyndsey’s room, and Jacob came up and put his arms on Lyndsey’s shoulder.
“What does it say?” Asked Jacob.
Ashley gulped, “Uh, you read it.”
Jacob read the note and threw the dead rose in the trash angrily. “Pack your things,” He said.
“Why?” She asked.
“Just pack them,” He stated firmly.
That night Trevor drove Jacob and Lyndsey to the airport. “I’m sending you to Canada, where you’ll be put in your own house, where you’ll be safe. I’ll call you every night,” He said.
Upset, she kissed him and hugged Trevor, and got on the plane. A tear rolled down Jacob’s cheek, “I had to do it,” He said over and over.
“I know man. You had no choice,” Trevor agreed. The next morning the guys headed back to the studios to record songs for their new album.
Jacob called Lyndsey’s new place, “Hey. Did you get there alright?” He asked.
“Yeah. I’m fine, I guess. I just really miss you,” She sighed.
“I miss you too. But this is the best for you,” He said.
“Yeah. I didn’t get any notes or dead roses this morning,” Lyndsey tried to make a joke.
“The stalker doesn’t know where you are,” Stated Jacob.
“I hope not. Anyway, you’d better go back and record. I love you,” She said.
“I love you,” He said back, before hanging up.
“Ok, let’s do Baby I Would a capella,” Dan said, at the next day’s rehearsal.
“Would I walk through fire just to be with you,” Jacob began singing. Half-way through the song they stopped because Jacob was late on his part.
“Sorry guys, I just need a breather,” He replied, leaving.
Erik followed him and said, “Don’t worry J man, it’s just a cruel joke.”
“I don’t know, I thought so too,” He began.
“Well, she’s safe. Knowing that she’s safe should help,” Said Erik, sympathetically.
“I just miss her,” He answered, standing up to hug Erik, “Thanks man.”
They went back inside to rehearse. After two weeks Trevor and Jacob flew down to see Lyndsey. “I missed you soooo much!” Lyndsey stressed her words, excited, hugging Jacob, then Trevor, and then Jacob again and kissed him passionately.
“The others send their love,” Jacob smiled.
“So, any news?” Trevor asked in a serious voice.
“Nope. No notes or death threats,” She smiled.
“Good,” Jacob grinned, clenching her hand.
“Good enough for me to come home to where I belong?” She asked, hopeful.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, not yet,” Jacob frowned.
“He’s right. Give it some more time,” Trevor agreed. Their day went by really fast and Jacob and Trevor had to leave.
“Can’t you stay the night” She asked them.
“I wish we could, but we’re recording tomorrow,” Jacob replied and then gave her a kiss, “You know I love you more than anything. Never forget that.”
Lyndsey was sad as she hugged them both and kissed Jacob one final time. Upon arriving home the guys all met in the studios to record. "Jacob and I wrote a song,” Ashley stated, “ We could sing it and play out guitars and see if you all like it?”
“Sure,” The producer, Nick, answered.
Jacob and Ashley sang and played their guitars to their song and Nick instantly knew they had a hit on their hands. The guys recorded new songs for the next month and saved Jacob’s and Ashley’s song for last. Nick worked Dan, Trevor and Erik into the song and began to record the song to complete the album. Trevor finished first and was told he could leave if he wanted.
“What’s wrong?” Dan asked him.
“I don’t really know. I have this weird feeling inside. I’ve gotta go somewhere. I’ll see you guys later on,” He hesitated, before leaving, and heading out in his car.
Two hours later Jacob was inside the sound room when his cell phone went off. “Hello?” He asked.
“Hi Jacob,” A voice said.
“Who is this?” Asked Jacob.
“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” The voice said.
“Excuse me?” He said, surprised, as the other three guys huddled around him, confused.
“Let me rephrase that,” The voice replied, ‘That’s for me to know and your girlfriend to fine out.”
Jacob went white, as if he’d seen a ghost, “What are you talking about?” He demanded to know, angrily.
“Well, let’s just say, I’m somewhere unexpectable, oh let’s say, in Lyndsey’s house,” The voice, obviously female, boasted.
“You leave, NOW!” Jacob yelled, “Or I’m gonna call the police.
The others were concerned. Jacob , in a non-obvious way, so the stalker wouldn’t know, signaled for Ashley to call Lyndsey. “Hello?” Lyndsey answered.
“Lynds, it’s Ashley. Leave the house right away,” He said, “The stalker is on the phone with Jacob and is in the house.”
“What?!” She panicked, starting to cry, and then
Ashley’s phone went dead, at the same time as Jacob’s. “Oh God!” Jacob screamed as he got in his car, and called the police as he drove to the airport.
(MEANWHILE)
“Don’t move!” The stalker said, holding a gun up to Lyndsey.
“Why are you doing this?” Screeched Lyndsey.
“Ha ha,” She giggled, “It’s simple. I love Jacob.”
“You can’t have him,” Lyndsey fired back.
The stalker got closer, “Not a smart thing to say to an angry person with a gun in their hands. If I can’t have Jacob, NOBODY can.”
Lyndsey shook as the stalker backed away, “So which is it? You leave Jacob or you die?” She grinned.
Lyndsey began to sob as she shook her head and said, “I will never leave him.”
Suddenly a gun shot went off and Lyndsey hit the floor. She opened her eyes again to see the stalker tackled on the floor by Trevor, and a bullet in the arm chair in the living room. Then the police came in, surrounding the stalker, arrested her and took her away.
Lyndsey raced over to Trevor and hugged him and whispered, “How did you get here so fast?”
“I had a strange feeling earlier,” He grinned, “I call it best friend instinct.”
For the next two hours, police collected evidence and took Lyndsey’s testimony and asked her questions. Lyndsey sat next to Trevor, who had his arm over her shoulder. “Are you ready to come home?” He asked.
“I’m more than ready,” She whispered.
As they left the investigator-filled house a black jeep pulled up. Jacob came running up the driveway into Lyndsey’s awaiting arms.
Again, she sobbed, and surprisingly Jacob cried too. They drove to the airport, got on a plane and flew home. The flight was short and very quiet. Jacob took Lyndsey to his room and stayed until she fell asleep. After, he went outside to Trevor and gave him a huge hug.
“Thanks,” He said, whole-heartedly, “I don’t know what I would’ve done if…”
“Me neither,” Trevor stated, “But it’s over and she’s home, for good.”
Jacob went back to his room and crawled into bed next to Lyndsey. Lyndsey grabbed onto his hand tightly in her sleep.
The next morning after the others were filled in by Trevor, they all say down for breakfast together. “We’re glad to have you back,” Erik said.
“Yeah, we really missed you,” Ashley smiled.
“Awe, I missed you guys too,” Lyndsey grinned for the first time since she was back.
“I love you,” Jacob whispered to her.
“I love you too,” She replied back.
“That’s it,” Jacob said, standing up, “Lyndsey? We’ve been together a while. I know so much has happened but we’ve been able to stick through everything together, no matter what happened. We’ve experience more together in the past year than anyone in a life time, and I just want you to have happiness. I know I don’t have a ring, but I have love in my heart,” He got down on one knee, “Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” She exclaimed, flinging her arms around his neck, as the other guys cheered and whistled.
“I’m sorry I don’t have a ring yet, I just couldn’t keep this in,” Jacob explained.
“I don’t need a silly ring. I need you,” She smiled, and then passionately kissed him, as the guys teased them by making sexy whistles.
“You know I’m gonna get you a ring anyways,” He laughed.
“Ok, but I already have my happiness,” She said, grinning from ear to ear.
He gave her the softess kiss before everyone decided to go out and celebrate.
Lyndsey took Jacob’s hand, and he wrapped his arms around her waist and they walked out just as they would soon do at their wedding, and live happily ever after.
THE END.
