First off, the Skinhead subculture did not start out as racist. It started out during the industrial revolution as a worker's movement. The people back then had to shave their heads because of the machines they worked around.
Skinheads were the ninteenth-century equivalent to our modern-day Generation X. They wore (and still wear today)workshirts and pants, boots, and suspenders. On different occasions, they wear flashy suits and blend in with the crowd. At that time the music that the skinhead listened towere Blues, Jazz, and other things.
During the time of its evolution, the movement adopted the symbol of the crucified skinhead (shown at the top of the page, only without the hammer and sickle on it) to show sympathy for the working class. Then came the twentieth century, the times when punk and acid rock was becoming popular. Some people tried to bring the skinheads back to their punkish roots. But the Neo-Nazis, who also flourished during that time, tried to find some way to get kids into their organizations. So, they used the skinheads.
