Importance of the word

Questions to inspire thought.

1)Some say that it doesn't matter what you believe as long as you are sincere.  Can a man be sincerely wrong?  What does the word say about this?

2) Is doctrine important according to the word?

3) Are there false prophets today?

4) Who are the false prophets according to the word?

5) "Is the Word - Doctrine - Gospel" necessary for salvation.

 

 2Ti 4:1-4 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

 

Yes there will come men - who will not endure sound doctorine.

 

 1Ti 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

 

There is no other doctorine other than the one taught by Jesus and his holy apostles.  The word doctorines (pural) is only used in the Bible to refere to false doctorines.

 

 1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

 

the doctorine is necessary for salvation. save yourself and those that hear you.

However some people oppose themselves, rather than turn from the enfluence of the world.

 2Ti 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

 

2 Timothy 3:1-7 & 10 Paul's doctorine.  Ever learning but not coming to the knowledge of the truth. We must be a doer of the the doctorine or word to save our souls.

 

 Jas 1:21-25 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

 

Jesus warns us against false teachers.  Teachers who teach falsely saying that there is nothing for us to do...

 

Matt. 7:13-24   The Rock is the word of Jesus Christ.   Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

 

 Mt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  Mt 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt lose on earth shall be losed in heaven.

 

Some seem to think that this rock was peter and others the confessions that took place but it could well be the words of Jesus and his apostles.

 

 1Pe 1:22-25 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:  23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

 24 ¶ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:  25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
