Walls of Jerico

Joshua 6:1-16 & 20

1)  Marched around

2)  blew ram's horn

3) Compassed the city

4) blew long blast with trumpet

5) the people shouted

These people believed God.  they not only believed in God the they believed what God had said.  No matter how silly it may have seemed.

How silly this must have seemed to the people in Jerico, with its wall that never had been scaled.

The Children of Isreal did it with all faith and sincerty.  Not just Joshua and the preist but all the people.  I can hear what people would say today.

But they said not a word.  Can you imagine not a word for a week.

Wow! that is serious.  That is dedication and devotion.  No playing here.... Could you go for a week without a word.

They obeyed God with steadfastness and singleness of heart

What do you think would have happened, if after the 6th day some had said.  Nothing going to happen here and did not march on the 7th day. Or after they had marched 7 times the people said that is enough we do not have to shout.

If thay had said that shouting will do nothing to that wall, we do need to do that.  The wall would not have fallen.

1) Marched around   _        Hearing      Ro 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

2) blew ram's horn        _              Believe  John 8:24; Heb. 11:6

3) Compassed the city     _            Repent  Luke 13:3; 2Peter 3:9

4) long blast with trumpet_Confess Mat. 10:32-33; Acts 8:36-37

5) the people shouted  _  Baptized   Mat. 28:18-20; 1Peter 3:21

 they marched around and blew around and around they went.  Hearing and believing around and around we go until it causes action in our life.  Rom. 10:17

This is very important for the wall of satan to come down.

It is like a courtship prior to engagement.  Before you agree to get married there is a period of getting to know and understanding a person.  There is period of shareing dreams and ideas.

So is the hearing and believing.  Marching around and blowing the horns.  Hearing and believing.

Repentace is like deciding to be commited to just one in courtship. Just as when all the people compassed the City of Jerico.

Confessing Love toward you spouse is like the Confession given about Christ being God's son.  Like the blowing of the long blast of the trumpet. Saying here I come.

Being baptized is settting the marriage.  Being truly engaged.  We are the bride of Christ.  Gal. 3:26-27

It was God that took the wall down at Jerico so also it is God that takes Satan's wall down when we obey his gospel. Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.  13 ¶ And you, being dead in your sins and the circumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

With satan's wall down we are a new creature.  2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

when the wall of Jerico fell down they had to go in to the battle and they were not to touch the unclean thing.  the same is true of a Christian.  Once satan's wall comes down we are to go into the battle and to keep ourselves form sin.  2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.  12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.  Rom. 12:1-2

What do you think would have happened at Jerico if the Hebrews had not went in to the battle.  Or if they had taken the acursed thing.  One did.  Achan took of the spoil.  becuse of it 36 men died becuse of it and Isreal fled before A'i a small group of people.  then Achan was stoned ..

The same concept is true for us today. 1Co 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

What about your life.  1 John  2:1  and 1 John 1:9

1 John 1:7  this is written to those that have been baptized into Jesus Christ to those for whom God has taken down the wall of Satan

Acts 2:36-38
