This bridge near Meehan Junction, MS, was bypassed in 2001. The bridge is structually unsafe. In fact, train engineers along the adjacent railroad reported seeing pieces falling off of the bridge. The abandoned bridge, looking northbound (the road is aligned east-west through here). Although the bridge is narrow, it was bypass due to structual problems. Barricades were placed from treeline to treeline on both sides of the bridge to keep any type of vehicle off of the bridge. Looking southbound (westward) at the old bridge. The new bridge starts on top of the old road, which turns west to parrallel the railroad for 1/2 mile. The creek parallels the old road on the left side of the picture. |
