MS 9 through from Calhoun Academy to Bruce was reconstructed (except for the section in Pittsboro) in the late 1990's. There are three sections of highway that was bypass from Calhoun Academy to Pittsboro. Looking south at Calhoun Academy. The old highway starts northward from here. (April 2002) Turned around looking north. The new highway is on the far right of the picture. (April 2002) The old highway crosses the new highway. As usual, MDOT built a perpendicular connector just behind the camera and another for the other side just ahead. (April 2002) The old highway curves to the left and parallels the new highway. (April 2002) The old highway ends abruptly without a paved connector. (April 2002) Around the next curve, the last section of old highway begins. Looking south at the connector with MS 9. This section is the farthest away from the new highway. (April 2002) The Pittsboro town limits on the old highway. The old highway ends at the stop sign just out of camera range. (April 2002) |
