Constructed in 1928, the original Navajo Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The bridge crosses the Colorado River, which serves as the western border of the Navajo Nation. The new Navajo Bridge was constructed in 1993 parallel to the 1928 bridge. Facing east (US 89A southbound). The 1928 bridge on the left; the 1993 bridge on the right. Looking down thew old bridge. The old bridge had very narrow lanes. The plaque on the left denotes the bridges designation as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The right plaque denotes the bridges listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The sticker on the far right of post says (in symbol) "No Littering." View of the river from the old bridge. New bridge in foreground. The Colorado River is a beautiful shade of green, but it's a long way down to the river. |
